When it comes to baking and cooking shows, we are always looking for something new to add to the classics we love. And that’s where Crime Scene Kitchen comes in. After just a few episodes (four at this point), we know what we think of this series, and it is a win from us!

While we love Great British Bake Off for its sense of comfort and fair play, and we can’t wait for new episodes of Hell’s Kitchen for the drama and cooking challenges, there is always room for more cooking/baking shows. This is why we were actually pretty excited by the news that we were getting a series called Crime Scene Kitchen.

Not only were we intrigued by the title, and then the premise of the series, but there was also the fact that we really like Joel McHale. Considering he seems to be popping up everywhere, we aren’t mad at him coming on as the host of baking show.

Here’s why we are loving Crime Scene Kitchen on Fox

And as the host of Crime Scene Kitchen, he is killing it (no pun intended). He brings the humor without being mean about it. He is snarky, but in a way that actually does make us and the contestants laugh.

Then we have the judges. Thanks to Curtis Stone and Yolanda Gampp, we get a chef and a baker who know their stuff, are able to create amazing desserts, and leave clues behind that should hint at the final product, without making things too easy. They offer encouragement in their own way, and they never make the bakers feel bad about their creations, whether they are right or wrong in their guesses, and even if the desserts end up being fail.

It is almost like they found the perfect people to host and judge a mystery baking competition to give it the softer edge of the Great British Bake Off, and the slightly rougher edge of American shows. And it works.

Of course, the entire thing wouldn’t work without the contest and contestants themselves. After all, they are bringing in a group of bakers who in some cases are professionals, and in other cases are home bakers with a lot of talent. It is fascinating to see the different teams work out the clues for each “crime scene” to determine the mystery dessert.

And since we don’t learn the mystery dessert until the bakers do, we are left to guess right along with them. It can be so much fun trying to guess along with the bakers and offering up the same level of snark when one baker picks a tart, while another picks a cake, and you’re left yelling at the TV in disdain over their choices. (It’s a whole thing!)

When it comes to guilty pleasures, Crime Scene Kitchen delivers. And we are going to keep tuning in every week to see who fails, who wins, and who else is a crime scene hero! Also more Joel McHale is never a bad thing!
