Fast Food: 10 greatest Burger King menu items of all-time
Having first opened as Insta-Burger King in 1963, this fast food chain has grown to be quite the big-time earner. As of 2012, the company had earned $1.9 billion (rounded), and has revitalized its menu over and over again as the years went by. We’ve decided to list the greatest Burger King menu items, which we quite obviously love to do with so many of the fast food icons in the industry.
It wasn’t all that easy, though, as Burger King has had some pretty epic items on their menu over the years, but the old standbys certainly made the list, and we sure narrowed it down. But what you can call the rarer items made the list as well.
Here are the 10 greatest Burger King menu items of all-time
10. Sourdough King
Sourdough bread isn’t something you’d think would be offered over at Burger King, but it is and in all its glory. Sometimes you just don’t want a regular bun, and in this case the sourdough bread definitely hits the proverbial mark.
It complements the meat and other ingredients perfectly and it makes our number 10 spot easily. And with this one, why go for the single when you can get the two meat patties instead?
9. Strawberry Hand-Spun Shake
Having a shake in a burger place reminds me of 50s era diners, where cool studs in leather jackets walked in and ordered a shake and a burger, looking as cool as John Travolta in Grease. Now I don’t walk in, acting like old John, looking for today’s version of Sandy, but I think of movies like that every time I see anyone enjoying one of these strawberry shakes in a Burger King as I sip on my own drink.
Personally, I prefer the shakes at Burger King to the ones at McDonalds—the strawberry in particular.
8. Grilled Chicken Sandwich
This one definitely had to make the cut. We added it specifically because out of the grilled chicken options in many other fast food chains, this one in particular is probably the best.
When needing to make that healthier option, grilled chicken is probably the safer bet; especially if you’ve got quite the appetite.
7. Spicy Chicken Jr.
And if you’re trying to cut down on calories but don’t want to sacrifice the epic taste of crispy fried chicken, the Chicken Jr. is definitely a way to go, seeing that it’s a tad smaller and all.
In this case, the spiciness of this particular little number is well worth it; there’s nothing like a little kick when it comes to a chicken sandwich.
6. Chicken Fries
Now to stay on the whole chicken subject for just a second, these fries in particular beat the original potato fries offered at Burger King which—spoiler alert—you won’t see on this list. Yeah…the cat’s out of the bag, folks. I’m not a fan of Burger King Fries. McDonald’s still makes the better fry, but these chicken fries are the next best thing and they hit the spot when you’re looking for epic chicken tenders that are a heck of a lot smaller. And besides, the novelty is pretty cool too, and it never gets old.
5. Caramel Sundae
If you’re going to go the soft serve route, why not go for the caramel? It’s better here than even at McDonald’s. The soft serve itself is okay, but the caramel sauce is aces.
4. Oreo Cookie Cheesecake
To stay on the sweeter side of things, we’ve decided to hit this list with this little item that should satisfy that sweet tooth of yours. Okay, so it isn’t the cheesecake you’re likely to find at your local bakery, but for something offered at a fast food chain, it pretty much delivers on all cylinders, dear readers.
If you haven’t tried it, do yourselves a favor and trust old Dom on this one. And by the way…Oreo’s are the best, and they just add to the magic here.
3. Big Fish Sandwich
Okay…not everyone’s favorite. I get that, but Burger King, in my opinion, offers the best of the fish sandwiches. The filet of fish in the sandwich just makes McDonald’s counterpart pale in comparison.
Burger King gives you a nice piece of fish and the bun is perfectly paired with the lettuce and sauce to boot. If you like fish, you can’t go wrong with this one.
2. Original Chicken Sandwich
To go back to yet another chicken item, this was one we couldn’t avoid. The original is definitely the best when it comes to chicken at BK. The longer Panini style sesame bun is probably the big star here, and the chicken itself has always reminded me of chicken cutlet Milanese (although cheaper and less authentic, but close enough when in a bind).
1. The Whopper
And could a list of the most epic BK menu items ever have been complete without the king of all kings? This one here is so great, it doesn’t even need cheese. The original Burger King taste comes through with this one…and what you always got at Burger King was that homegrown BBQ burger taste that you can never get tired of.
Complete with lettuce, onion, tomato and the mayo and ketchup combo. Simplicity at its best, folks. That is the Whopper!
