Ranking 10 of the best Cap’n Crunch flavors from worst of the best, to best of the best
It’s kind of hard for me to find anything wrong with Cap’n Crunch cereal. And although that’s reserved for the original flavor primarily, we’re talking about a brand of cereal that really can’t miss all that much in the flavor department.
But I’ve been charged with the opportunity to at least try to rank some of the best flavors that the brand has to offer (and has offered), so here goes nothing, as they say.
Quaker Oats owns the Cap’n Crunch name and this brand was released 58 years ago in 1963. The familiar brown sugar and melted butter flavor present in every spoonful of Cap’n Crunch cereal was invented by Pamela Low, a flavorist of all things; she attributing the flavor combo to something that her grandmother used to serve over rice, according to Wikipedia.
Pamela passed on in 2007 at the age of 79, and all these years later, the Quaker Oats company are still releasing a plethora of flavors and even a line of cereal bars.
But which Cap’n Crunch flavors are the absolute best? And what more, which ones are the best of the best?
*They may not all be available everywhere, or at all times, but they’re out there if you look hard enough.
10. Cap’n Crunch’s Sprinkled Donut
Hey…I love donuts, and dare I say it sprinkled donuts to boot. And although this doesn’t at all taste terrible (I’d say that they’re good enough to eat two bowls of in one shot!), I’m not a fan of sprinkles in my cereal. Ice cream okay, but cereal…
9. Cap’n Crunch’s Blueberry Pancake
Although these were limited edition, they were well worth the try. I haven’t found them again, but interestingly enough, I have seen them on Amazon.
You’re welcome. Just be sure of the sender and who you’re buying them from…which is always the case when ordering food online.
If you’re ordering a Blue Ray or DVD online and want, I don’t know, the new Dwayne Johnson movie, and end up receiving Peewee’s Big Adventure, that isn’t exactly the same as receiving a box of sand, as opposed to a new cereal flavor you’ve been wanting to try.
“It’s all relative,” as Einstein used to say.
8. Cap’n Crunch’s Crunch Berries
Berries are always a welcome addition to any treat. Words to live by my friends.
7. Cap’n Crunch’s Peanut Butter Crunch
I’m a big fan of peanut butter and these have been around since the sixties, but dare I say it, I’m not all that in awe of peanut butter here. I mean, to go back to something I said before, I’d eat it and happily so, but the flavor is just okay.
6. Cap’n Crunch’s Christmas Crunch
I love seasonal offerings and this one is a treat for sure, and just like the Halloween offering, I’m not sure I’d go to it year-round, though.
5. Cap’n Crunch’s Chocolate Caramel Crunch
We’re getting there for sure. Caramel and chocolate is a flavor pairing that works. Tried, tested and true to a T.
4. Cap’n Crunch Galactic Crunch
Marshmallows! Really?! I love Lucky Charms (the marshmallows the best part…otherwise that cereal I pretty much like the bland Alphabets), and although the good old Cap’n doesn’t need any help in the flavor department, they certainly do not hurt.
3. Cap’n Crunch Chocolaty Crunch
Question for you, dear Guilty Eaters: If you have something epic, then add chocolate to it, what do you get…
1-Something extra good?
Or…
2-Something that is too far off the edge?
I say, why mess with something that’s perfect already?
2. Cap’n Crunch Cinnamon Roll Crunch
Cinnamon rolls in a cereal—an already epic cereal? Where do I sign?
1. Cap’n Crunch Original
I often get sentimental about food in these pieces, dear readers, and well, I can’t help it. Food is one of those things that has a way of transporting you back to special times…those times when you were able to escape the world out there (often a scary place).
The original Cap’n Crunch takes me back to sitting in front of the TV, watching old movies like the aforementioned Peewee’s Big Adventure and Back to the Future, over and over again.
And every time I plunge my spoon into a heaping bowl of this cereal these days (when I have time to sit down for breakfast), perhaps editing my writing, trying to make my deadlines, it brings me the same level of peace I enjoyed back then. Just a different spot on the timeline I guess.
How about you, dear readers? Which flavors of the good old Cap’n’s do you love?
