McDonald’s has the Big Mac, Burger King has the Whopper. That’s the way it’s been for literally generations. The two iconic fast food sandwiches are as much a part of Americana as apple pie and pancakes. And for the most part they are each a pretty different experience.

Many people have a definite preference one way or the other. You are either a Whopper fan or a Big Mac devotee. But you can’t blame Burger King for trying to have their burger and eat it too. That line of thinking is what led to Burger King introducing the Big King.

The Big King is essentially the same sandwich as the Big Mac but with a different name and a sauce that isn’t so secret. First introduced in 2001, it has been on and off the Burger King menu ever since, always with a warm and enthusiastic reception by fans.

Well, get ready to celebrate because the sandwich is making a comeback. According to the fry fiends over at Chewboom, the Big King is returning to the Burger King menu for a limited time starting later this week.

The Burger King Big King sandwich is back but only for a limited time.

For those who may not know, the Big King includes a pair of quarter pound beef patties (flame grilled of course) topped with American cheese, lettuce, onions, pickles and Stacker Sauce all on a sesame seed bun.

And if you’re thinking that sounds an awful lot like a Big Mac, well, you wouldn’t be wrong.

In addition, if you are a member of the chain’s Royal Perks program, you’re in luck. You’ll get early access to the Big King if you order via the Burger King website of their mobile app before the rest of the country. Talk about a perk.

Just like every other time the Big King has resurfaced, it’s only going to be available for a limited time. So if you have a craving for a burger that’s like the Big Mac but isn’t, you better head to your local drive-thru fast.
