It seemed like this time last year as the Great Chicken Sandwich Wars raged, ironically everyone was introducing a new and/or improved fish sandwich. It felt like every chain, including fried chicken impresarios Popeyes, was trying to get in on the action for Lent.

Of course, once Lent had come and gone, most of the fish sandwiches went with it. Other then the iconic Fish Fillet Sandwich at McDonald’s, most fast food chains were quite happy to go back to pushing burgers and chicken sandwiches.

But now that Lent for 2022 is right around the corner, fish sandwiches across the board are beginning to make a comeback. And one of the first to the fish fry is Popeyes with the return of their popular Flounder Fish Sandwich, but with a twist.

According to the fish mongers over at Chewboom, the chain is returning the Flounder Fish Sandwich to menus everywhere but taking a cue from their immensely popular chicken sandwich. They will now offer the Flounder Fish Sandwich in classic and spicy varieties.

The Popeyes Flounder Fish Sandwich will likely only be around for a limited time.

The Flounder Fish Sandwich includes a wild caught, flaky flounder fillet on a brioche bun with cured pickles and tartar sauce. The spicy version finds the flounder fillet seasoned in a mix of Cajun and spicy seasoning.

Popeyes is offering the sandwich nationwide for a price of $4.49. As an added bonus, members of the Popeyes Rewards program get an additional 150 points for every Flounder Fish Sandwich they buy. Like last year, the Flounder Fish Sandwich will only be at Popeyes for a limited time, so catch one while you can.
