Next up, let’s travel on over to Maine and Maryland for some early morning deliciousness!
19. Maine
Breakfast Place: Palace Diner
Featured Dish: Lumberjack Breakfast
The Palace Diner was originally built out in Lowell, Massachusetts, and to this day, is one of two Pollard Cars left in America. While it unfortunately closed for a while several years back, owners Greg Mitchell and Chad Conley reopened the place back in 2014. Just this year in fact, in 2021, the building saw it’s first renovations in years that will only make it stronger for many moreyears to come!
Now…let’s talk about their The Lumberjack Breakfast! It’s got legit a little bit of everything in it, so the perfect breakfast for someone who not only likes sweet and savory breakfast options, and also for someone who just can’t seem to make up their mind (much like myself – just ask about anyone in my family how many times they’ve got the ‘other’ option that I couldn’t choose between).
Here’s what The Lumberjack Breakfast consists of:
- Sliver Flapjacks – so, Mini Pancakes, essentially
- Two Eggs – of Your Choosing
- Breakfast Meat – of Your Choosing
- Palace Potatoes – check out their website and reviews to find out more about what’s in here

Breakfast Place: The Breakfast Shoppe
Featured Dish: Backpackers Pie
Ever heard of a frittata before? Are you a fan of eggs or Quiche (which none can nearly be as good as my Dad’s – love you, Dad)? Then one of their most famous dishes will certainly be the one for you. Every breakfast dish comes with the choice of one side, among other ones as well; here are those options: Biscuit, Croissant, or Cornbread. Not a fan of potatoes on the side? Try one of these other great and delicious options as well, such as the following: Grits, Applesauce, or Oatmeal.
Now, for what we’ve all been most importantly waiting for…let’s talk about their Backpacker’s Pie! This has been called their Legendary Special since 1988! And here’s what it consists of and all are fresh ingredients:
- Eggs
- Ham
- Bacon
- Sausage
- Peppers
- Onions
- Potatoes
- Tomatoes
- Mushrooms
- Spinach
- Broccoli
- Cheddar Jack Cheese
This breakfast is all served in a hot cast iron skillet! Yumm-oh!
