This week’s episode of Big Restaurant Bet could not have been more stressful and considering it’s only episode 2, the next four episodes are bound to be even worse.

This week, the chefs had to create a dish that would be the big moneymaker at their restaurant. This meant that it cost very little to make and that they priced it right to make the most profit.

Some did really well with dishes like carrot tacos and mac and cheese croquettes (I will take both please!) while others struggled with lobster BLTs and corn tacos. Chef Zakarian was not getting behind lobster as a moneymaker.

But unlike in episode 1, in this episode, no one went home after the first round. It looks like that was only something for the premiere.

Episode 2 of Big Restaurant Bet was filled with tension

Next up was the elimination challenge. This time, the chefs had to make one wow dish (a dish people see going by their table and immediately order) and they had to present their restaurant idea to Chef Zakarian and the judges.

The time in the kitchen making their wow dishes wasn’t too bad, but once it was time for the presentations, you could feel the tension go up. It was like the day of a big presentation at school. And like in school, some people did really well and some people fell flat.

The person who did the best during their presentation and who presented a great dish was Chef Mariana. Anyone could see from her presentation that she was going to be on top this round. She actually processed blue corn in front of the judges and explained her idea quite well.

The two chefs who were in the bottom two in the first round also seemed to struggle in this elimination round. Chef Demetrius didn’t have too much detail in his presentation and the judges didn’t all like his food.

Chef Leo had similar issues. Chef Zakarian actually said he didn’t like Chef Leo’s restaurant name and the judges also had some issues with his food.

But at the end of the day, it was Chef Demetrius who was sent home.

Despite the amount of stress and tension in this episode, it still wasn’t fun or entertaining to watch. One minute the chefs were supporting each other and the next they were judging each other’s food and restaurant ideas. There was plenty of drama with the cooking and presenting restaurant ideas. We really didn’t need to see them making snide comments about one another.

I think one of the biggest issues with this show is that while it features food, it’s more about business. And while some viewers might like that, most people watching The Food Network want the focus on the food (and the drama lol). At times, Big Restaurant Bet feels more like Shark Tank and less like a food show (and that’s not a compliment).
