Big Restaurant Bet was back for episode 3 on April 19 on The Food Network and the stress was definitely getting to the chefs. They were forgetting the most basic things like salt and acid. It was a mess.

The episode started off with Chef Zakarian taking three items from each chefs’ menu and those were the dishes they had to make. They only had 90 minutes. Considering these dishes are ones the chefs came up with, you’d think this would be a piece of cake, but it definitely wasn’t.

Most of them had issues with not adding enough salt or acid. Chef Brett was the one to come out on top of this challenge.

For the next challenge, the chefs had to make a small plate special using whatever leftovers they could find in the kitchen, including ingredients other chefs used in the previous challenge. This was meant to see if they knew how to limit the amount of waste at their restaurants.

This episode of Big Restaurant Bet was lacking seasoning

Some chefs stuck with flavors that worked for their restaurant theme while others used ingredients and flavor combinations that they hadn’t used before. Chef Leo tried to reuse the beets he used in the previous challenge that the judges didn’t like, but that turned out to be his downfall and he was the one eliminated this week.

Chef Brett won this challenge with his ahi tuna aguachile. He was being compared to Chef Mariana as she also made a tuna dish, but the judges seemed to like his better.

Overall, this week’s episode was just okay. The dishes the chefs made all looked spectacular and it was definitely interesting to see what they made with leftovers, but beyond that, it just felt meh. Nothing feels new or fresh about the show so unless there is a huge surprise one week or someone says something really awful, it’s going to continue being just okay.

Although, that surprise could come next week as Chef Zakarian and Chef Eric will be the ones in the kitchen. The chefs will be giving them their recipes and the two judges will have to figure out how to make them. It should be fun!
