MasterChef Junior Season 8 has been a lot more challenging for our young chefs than any other season before it. And while we are definitely here for the fact that the judges are being a lot more critical of the mistakes being made, it is also nice to see some of the same things we have enjoyed in previous seasons.

And in episode 6, not only did we have a previous champion return to help with a flambé demonstration, but we also got to see the young chefs make their own flambé creation. Ultimately, it really feels like MasterChef Junior is using Season 8 to really challenge young chefs and show them just how difficult working in a kitchen can be. But that’s what is making this season so much fun.

It feels like a much more realistic approach to a cooking competition to have the judges be more critical of the mistakes being made by the junior chefs. And in both the walnut and flambé challenges that the chefs faced in this episode, we got to see a few chefs crumble and a few rise to the top.

With the flambé challenge being the one that will send a chef home, it was important for all of the chefs to bring their very best dishes to the table. But for some of them, the focus on flames meant overcooked meat, undercooked cake, and even way too many capers on a plate.

Ultimately, it was Andrew who failed to deliver when the best part of his dish (the bananas) didn’t go on the judging plate and the cake he baked was still raw in the center, leaving him as the chef sent home.

And while we are sad to see him go, it was a reminder that even the best chefs will end up being sent home at some point until there is only one left to claim the MasterChef Junior title.
