With the summer approaching, Dairy Queen is of course the ideal location to sample some delectable ice cold and creamy treats when the temperature climbs. But DQ doesn’t just offer items of a creamy and ice cold variety. The restaurant chain offers many delicious savory items that are a tad more reminiscent of your favorite fast food burger franchise. Today we’ve decided to look at 7 of our favorite DQ menu items.

The chain was founded in Joliet, Illinois in 1940 and since that inception, it has become a top fast food chain across North America. It was founded by the team of John Fremont McCullough, Alex McCullough and Sherb Noble.

Interestingly enough not all North American locations offer a full menu, but for the most part, if you walk into a neighborhood DQ, they should offer an assortment of tasty menu items you can really sink your teeth into quite literally.

Here are 7 of our most favorite treats and menu items offered on the DQ menu

7. Poolside Punch Twisty Misty Slush

Okay…so back to that hot summer day thing. It is Dairy Queen we’re talking about, so those aforementioned cool drinks and ice cream treats were bound to make their way onto this list; especially this little bugger.

I don’t know about you all, Guilty Eaters, but Slushies are most definitely an item that’s always suddenly on my mind when the days are long, hot and the sun seems to have an agenda all its own and sets out to bake you alive. In such cases, there’s nothing like a nice cold drink of crushed ice flavored with fruity goodness.

This one here definitely fits that bill. According to the DQ website, “it’s just like summer in a cup,” and has the dynamic flavors of blue raspberry and pink punch flavors; it’s refreshing to the last drop.

6. Fudge-Stuffed Cookie

Pretty self-explanatory this one. Really it’s a cookie stuffed with chocolate sauce, with a side of ice cream and a drizzling of chocolate sauce too.

This is one of those instances where if I say anything else I’ll be talking away the wonder that this DQ treat undoubtedly is, so I’ll let a brief moment of silence pass, all the while, this menu item will speak for itself….

5. Vanilla Orange Bar

This one here is one of DQ’s take-home treats they offer. Now no, on the surface it doesn’t look like much, but I believe there’s a special place in Heaven for the person who first decided to pair cream and oh-so-sweet orange flavor.

This one has it all and it takes me back to my very first sip of an Orange Julep over at the Orange Julep in Montréal. If you’ve never been, this ice cream bar comes close, but if you can get to Montréal…you’ll want to visit that establishment that also offers some epic fast food treats you won’t soon forget.

Just look it up online and oh…you can’t miss it really. The place is shaped like a giant orange.

4. Meal Deal

Why not get the absolute best of both worlds: Something savory and something sweet and creamy to boot? If that’s what you’re after then this option is most definitely for you.

Besides DQ makes exceptional chicken fingers, and this meal comes with fries, a drink and you can pair them with any one of their epic ice cream sundaes…chocolate, strawberry, caramel, cherry and yes, even Pineapple.

They also offer a cheeseburger meal deal if the chicken fingers aren’t your thing.

3. Loaded Steakhouse Burger

This one here takes me back to the first time I watched a pro wrestling pay-per-view with my buddies at a restaurant—specifically a steakhouse—known in our neck of the woods as La Cage Aux Sports.

I was 14 and my parents let me go to the aforementioned local steakhouse with my buddies to watch Stone Cold Steve Austin pummel one of his adversaries into the mat…all the while we all had quite a few tasty steakhouse burgers.

The steakhouse burger at DQ takes me back to that very memory and hey…it’s the good memories we have to hold onto, right, dear readers?

2. Mushroom Cheeseburger

The typical dressings on a burger can sometimes get a tad boring. If you feel that way, a mushroom cheeseburger is the way to go. No lettuce, no tomatoes…just the gooey cheese, the burger patty, the bun and the sautéed mushrooms that they do very well at GQ with this little number, and actually there’s nothing little about it, as it’s very satisfying.

Besides, mushrooms, along with eggplant are the meatiest of veggies (or rather fungi, despite their classification as vegetables), and the perfect thing to have on your burger.

1. The Vanilla Cone

Friends…does anything beat a classic? Perhaps not and maybe that’s the very definition of a classic…something that can’t be beaten, no matter how hard you try.

There’s nothing like a simple vanilla cone on a trip to the docks in the summer or yes, even in the fall. If I’m being honest…I get a craving for one of these even in the deep frost dead of winter and yes, I’ve satisfied said craving too.

It’s a tad chilly during and afterward, when all that are left are some crumbs from the cone on my shirt front, but hey…the price we pay for being Guilty Eaters, isn’t it?
