It’s time for the first baking challenge of the MasterChef: Back to Win season. And that means that it is time to “Bake to Win.”

For some chefs, this should be an easy enough challenge, while others may end up struggling to make magic happen. And things get even trickier when it turns out that our immunity pin winner from last week, Christian, gets to choose the order in which our cheftestants get to pick the dessert they will be making.

It’s all about perfectly replicating a variety of impressive desserts. So what are our top 15 MasterChef contestant’s baking up this week?

And with Christian picking the order, it was definitely his competition that he left to the end. So which two chefs got last pick? That would be Michael who picked the Hazelnut Ricotta Cake and Derrick who was left with the Sticky Toffee Puddings. (And yes, there was definitely some trash talking between Derrick and Christian.)

With a clear target on his back, Derrick has a lot to prove with this bake. Especially since the dessert he was left with is one that Gordon Ramsay has perfected himself (it’s considered his signature dessert).

But what did some of the other chefs pick? Shelly, who got the second pick snagged the Napoleon (which can be a challenging dessert), Tommy picked the Lemon Meringue Tart (which he explained is his husband’s favorite), and Willie, who picked first, took the Chocolate Mousse Cake.

And even from the very beginning of the challenge, it feels like there are some chefs who are struggling in ways that even they didn’t expect. Of course, we also have a chef like Michael who is trying to prove that he can do better than the last time he was in the MasterChef kitchen. And that means that he has to deliver this time, because during his first season he went home at 15.

Oh and there was a fire in the kitchen at Brandi’s station. And as she pointed out, the fire wasn’t even the worst thing that was happening in her portion of the kitchen.

With so many chefs struggling this week, the big question we had was will everyone finish.

So after a walk through the kitchen and chats with the chefs and judges, who was in the top three and who ended up in the bottom three?

In the top three, we had Michael’s Hazelnut Ricotta Cake, Dara with her Berry Chiffon Cake, and finally it was Amanda with the Coconut Passionfruit Cake. Basically, these three chefs just nailed the assignment so it was anyone’s challenge to win.

So who walked away with the immunity pin for this week’s baking challenge? For this challenge it was absolutely Dara who walked away with the win and the pin.

Sadly, that leaves us with a bottom three. And who was in the bottom for the baking challenge? Up first it was Tommy with his Lemon Meringue Tart. Then we had Shelly with the Napoleon. And finally it was Bri with the Strawberry Pistachio Tart.

Ultimately, the chef who went home this week was Tommy.
