With 11 chefs left in the MasterChef kitchen, it is time for a very unique challenge. And that means taking on what they are calling the “Grubhub” challenge.

So what is the Grubhub challenge? It is taking traditional take out dishes and elevating them to MasterChef levels. It’s making the dish gourmet quality, even when you might not have thought that dish could be considered gourmet when you think about what delivery might entail.

Each chef will have to choose one of the top dishes to be delivered via Grubhub and then recreate it. After picking a mystery bag, they revealed what dishes they would have to recreate and elevate.

And on top of having to recreate these dishes, they only get 45 minutes to make the magic happen. It’s a challenge on top of a challenge. Plus, you have to think that many of these dishes are the most popular menu items across the country, and that gives people a preconceived notion of what to expect.

MasterChef gives their 11 remaining chefs a “Grubhub” challenge to make it into the top 10

While some of these dishes sound like they would be easy enough to recreate and elevate, other dishes take a lot more time than just 45 minutes to make at all.

At Fred’s station he is taking spaghetti and meatballs and giving it a Mediterranean flair by making a potsticker with a meatball filling. While Dara is taking butter chicken, which is an Indian dish, and just bringing more flavors to the table, without taking away from the beauty that is Indian cuisine.

While some chefs looked like they had everything under control even at the halfway point of the cook, there were definitely a few issues in the kitchen as well.

After the judges walked around and did some tasting, it was time to bring up the top and bottom chefs.

So which chefs were in the top? Up first we had Michael with his Korean-Style Ramyun, a play on a classic Ramen dish. Next they called up Dara with her Indian Butter Chicken. And finally it was Derrick, who was told that if his dish was cooked right he would be in the top or if it was undercooked he would go straight to the bottom. After getting Tinga Empanadas in his Grubhub bag, he recreated the dish by making a Lobster en Croute. (And in the end it truly was a top dish.)

So which chef walked away with the immunity pin? That would be Derrick with his Lobster en Croute.

And then we had the chefs that were sadly in the bottom this time around. So which chefs got called up this time? With only two chefs getting called up after Derrick ended up not only in the top three, but also winning the immunity pin, the first chef called up was Fred with his Italian Meatball Potstickers, which was a recreation of spaghetti and meatballs. And the other chef called up in the bottom was Willie with his Chicken and Rice Meatballs, which were a take on Orange Chicken with fried rice.

Ultimately, the chef who went home at the end of the MasterChef “Grubhub” challenge was sadly Fred.
