Oscar Mayer launches the Cold Dog (Seriously)
By D. Goodman
Everyone loves a hot dog, especially when it comes from the folks at Oscar Mayer. Whether it’s fond childhood memories of backyard BBQs or as an adult enjoying one and a cold beverage at a baseball game, everyone can agree the hot dog is pretty awesome.
However, that love only goes so far. And it seems that as the summer days begin to shorten, Oscar Mayer wants to see just how far that love of hot dogs will go.
Because according to press email we at Guilty Eats received, the folks at Oscar Mayer and Popbar, a leader in frozen treats and novelties, are teaming up to create something called a Cold Dog. And yes, it is just as terrifying and dumbfounding as it sounds.
The Oscar Mayer Cold Dog is only available at select Popbar locations.
The Oscar Mayer Cold Dog is an ice cream pop that is flavored like a hot dog. Let me repeat that. The Cold Bar is an ice cream treat that tastes like a hot dog. And no, this isn’t some late April Fool’s joke. It is very real.
According to the email we received, the Cold Dog “boasts both refreshing and smokey, umami notes of the brand’s iconic wiener, topped off with a signature swirl of ‘mustard.’” So somehow, someone infused perfectly good ice cream with hot dog flavor and thought this was a good idea? Seriously?
Anyway, the Cold Dog will (thankfully) only be available for a limited time starting August 25 and only in a handful of places. Those include Popbar locations in Long Beach, New Orleans, Atlanta and New York.
Additionally, the iconic Oscar Mayer Weinermobile had to get in on the action and has been refitted to become a traveling ice cream Cold Dog truck. Becasue, you know, a 27-foot long hot dog with wheels just wasn’t enough. The new and improved Weinermobile will be handing out free samples at select beach locales through August 27.
You know, just when I think I’ve seen everything foodie culture has to offer, along comes a ice cream treat that tastes like a hot dog. What’s next, Drumstick ice cream cones that taste like chicken drumsticks?
