MasterChef has made it to its top eight and that means that it is time for “The Wall” challenge. This also means it is time for chefs to partner up.

With The Wall challenge, our chefs will form teams of two in order to cook on opposite sides of a literal wall. The duos will still need to communicate with each other in order to create identical dishes even with the wall between them.

This also means that two people will end up being eliminated by the end of the night! It is definitely one of the more difficult challenges that our MasterChef cheftestants have to take on in this Back to Win Season.

So which chefs are working together in this challenge? Here are how the episode’s pairings shook out:

  • Emily and Michael
  • Dara and Shanika
  • Christian and Willie
  • Amanda and Derrick

As there was no immunity tonight, Emily was instead given the opportunity to pick the night’s pairings. After carefully selecting her partner in Michael, she then attempted to be strategic in selecting the other pairs by trying to pair up chefs she didn’t think would work well together. But would this prove to be a successful strategy?

Who went home on MasterChef tonight during The Wall challenge?

While Emily thought pairing Christian and Willie would be a recipe for disaster, it ended up proving to work incredibly well in their favor. Having worked together during their original season, the pair pulled off the night’s top dish and ended up winning The Wall challenge — making them the first to secure places in the Top 6.

Next to be saved for the night were Emily and Michael. While their dish wasn’t the best dish of the night, it proved good enough to keep them safe from elimination and landed them a place in the Top 6. This meant Dara and Shanika and Amanda and Derrick found themselves in danger of being sent home.

After careful deliberation, the judges eliminated Derrick and Amanda with Shanika and Dara earning their places in the Top 6. Clearly, Emily’s strategy in pairing the pair together worked out as they couldn’t get things together and presented a dish plagued by many basic mistakes.
