Great British Baking Show was back and it was Biscuit Week! This means cookies for us Americans. And while there were certainly some amazing bakes, there were also some big struggles as well.

Let’s start with the Signature Challenge! For this challenge, the bakers had to make 18 decorative macarons. The bakers really showed off their flavors and skills in this challenge. There were macarons that looked like ice cream cones, hamburgers, raccoons, and watermelons. There was also a peanut satay macaron.

But beyond the beautiful macarons, there were two Paul Hollywood handshakes in this challenge. Dawn received one for her cute AF yo-yo macarons and Maxy got one for her impeccable daisy macarons.

On to the Technical Challenge. It was Prue’s turn to pick the challenge and she tasked the bakers with making 12 Garibaldi biscuits. These are two biscuits with dried fruit in the middle.

Great British Baking Show was all about biscuits this week

Some of the bakers knew what these were while others were baking blind. Besides making the biscuit, they also had to dip the cookies in chocolate and feather it with white chocolate.

Most of the bakers did pretty well but there were some that were messier than others. And then there was Syabira who made a white chocolate feather to put on top of her biscuits. It was well-done but not really what the judges were looking for.

Finally, the Showstopper Challenge! For this round, the bakers had to make a mask made out of biscuits. The bakers really outdid themselves with this challenge. Some of the masks looked like pieces of art. And this week, it was Maxy who got Star Baker with her carnival-inspired mask.

But there were also a few fails as well. Carole’s mask completely collapsed, but she wasn’t the one to go home this week. Maisam was the one to go home this week. Her mask was pretty, but she didn’t do that well in the Signature or in the Technical Challenge.

Next week, it’s Bread Week so Paul Hollywood will be even more judgemental than usual!
