There is never a bad time for cake but sometimes, you just can’t be bothered to make it. It takes a long time. Then you have to wait for it to cool before you put the frosting on. It’s a whole ordeal. But that’s where store-bought cake comes in handy. And while Target may not come to mind when you think of cake, it should. A bunch of Target stores now sell Mr. Kipling cake slices.

The UK brand launched in 219 Target stores across the US in 2022 and they offer a variety of flavors. The cake slices come in salted caramel, lemon (yes, please), chocolate, and vanilla. All the slices are frosted on top and filled with icing in the same flavor as the cake. They come six slices to a pack and one pack is $3.49.

If you’ve never heard of the Mr. Kipling brand that’s not really surprising. While they’re the number one cake brand in the UK, they’ve never been in the US before this year. Hopefully, that will change once more people try these cakes. And hopefully, the brand will expand to more Target stores as well.

I’ve always seen these types of cake slices on UK baking shows like the Great British Baking Show, but we don’t really have anything similar in the US. Twinkies and Ho-Hos don’t really compare. But luckily, now we get the chance to enjoy these. And if you want to get really authentic, you can eat them with your afternoon tea. Just make sure to put your pinky up!

But Mr. Kipling offers a whole lot more than just cake slices in the UK. They make french fancies, baking mixes, almond slices, Bakewell tarts, jam tarts, Battenberg cakes, and lots of different pies. If the cake slices are popular, we can only hope Target picks up the other baked goods as well. I need some mini tarts ASAP.
