It feels like for the bulk of 2022, Burger King has announced one new version of their Whopper after another. There was one with shaved ice, another with an everything bun and every time, they were only available in a place other than the Untied States. And it seems that now McDonald’s is getting into the act.

However, McDonald’s seems to really want to make their American customers feel the pain. The new sandwich they have announced that is being offered somewhere other than the good old USA is pretty much as American as apple pie.

According to Chewboom, McDonald’s has taken the wraps off a brand new Carolina BBQ Quarter Pounder. And is it available in either North or South Carolina? Nope. To try a sandwich that takes inspiration from Carolina barbecue, you have to go to Canada.

The McDonald’s Carolina BBQ Quarter Pounder is available for a limited time.

So what is a Carolina BBQ Quarter Pounder you ask? It takes the classic Quarter Pounder and gives it a tangy makeover. It includes a quarter-pound beef patty topped with tangy Carolina BBQ sauce, adds bacon, crispy onions, pickles, a couple of slices of cheese and puts the whole thing on a sesame seed bun.

If you find yourself in Canada and are lucky enough to try one, it will set you back $7.39 Canadian, which translates to roughly just under $5.50 in American dollars.

So why would McDonald’s add a sandwich like this to the menu but make it only available north of the border? Who knows. It should be obvious that a burger like this would be a huge hit in the U.S. and hopefully it will find it’s way down south sooner rather than later.

The Carolina BBQ Quarter Pounder will only be available (in Canada) for a limited time, so get one while you can.
