Grubhub unveils 2022 food trends and ordering habits

2022 is almost over and if you’re anything like us, you ate a lot of great food this year. And lots of that food may have been delivered via Grubhub. Well, now that it’s the end of the year, Grubhub has put together all the data on what everyone ordered this year and is now revealing what the top foods were this year.

What was the top food? Apparently, it was the burrito. The on-the-go food jumped from the number 8 spot last year all the way to number one. With people back to work in 2022 and needing to get a quick lunch, it makes sense that the burrito was much more popular.

But it wasn’t just the rolled-up burrito, this included the burrito bowl as well. And the burritos that were ordered included everything from sausage and eggs to the classic guacamole and sour cream.

After the burrito, the other top dishes included:

1. Burrito (bowl or regular)
2. Cheeseburger
3. Cheese Pizza
4. Pad Thai
5. Chicken Quesadilla
6. California Roll
7. Fried Chicken Sandwich
8. Caesar Salad
9. Chicken Tikka Masala
10. Boneless Wings

But while most of these foods above are great for lunch or dinner, what about breakfast? Grubhub has the scoop on the top orders for breakfast as well. The most popular orders included:

1. Sausage, Egg + Cheese Sandwich
2. Donuts
3. Sausage Burrito
4. Bagel with Cream Cheese
5. Muffins

Everyone really needs to be eating more donuts and bagels. How are they not at number one and two?? Who doesn’t like a donut or a bagel? Make this your 2023 resolution. Eat more donuts!

As for lunch, the top orders included lots of different items but most of the things on the list are some of the most crave-able foods ever:

1. Burrito
2. Cheeseburger
3. Fried Chicken Sandwich
4. Cheese Pizza
5. Chicken Quesadilla

But what about those late-night snacks? What is the most popular order for people who are up late at night and discover that they need to satisfy a craving? The top 5 items include:

1. Chicken Quesadilla
2. Fried Chicken Sandwich
3. Cheeseburger
4. Mozzarella Sticks
5. Cheese Pizza

Now that we’ve looked at breakfast, lunch, and midnight snacks, let’s look at the most important meal of the day: dessert! What were the top desserts that people ordered in 2022? You may be surprised by this one:

1. Tiramisu
2. Baklava (yes, please!)
3. Cookies
4. Cheesecake
5. Brownie
6. Churros (yum!0
7. Cannoli
8. Carrot Cake
9. Chocolate Cake
10. Flan

Tiramisu and baklava were ordered more than 44,000 and 35,000 times, respectively. That is a lot of dessert!

There were also some surprising cuisines that people in the US ordered this year. The top trending cuisines included Australian, South African, and Cambodian. It’s great to see people try new cuisines or find the cuisine of their native country in a new place.
