12. Holiday Pie

There are mixed feelings about the Holiday Pie.

It has long been a staple of McDonald’s dessert menu during the holidays, a time when the chain replaces the apple and cherry fillings in their baked pies and add a different, festive filling in the pie. The pie is then topped with frosting and sprinkles to add to the holiday cheer.

The end result for some has been a huge, loud “WTF???” and I can definitely understand why some may feel as if the Holiday Pie should be on the “Worst McDonald’s Menu Items Ever” list instead of this one.

I get it.

However, for many others, the wait for the Holiday Pie isn’t short enough, I included. Confession: I used to be one of the “Holiday Pie Haters,” wondering why in God’s green Earth they would taint the apple pie’s good name with this monstrosity.

Well, a couple of years ago, I decided to order the Holiday Pie and try it with a different lens than the one I was used to having, and the pie was actually pretty darn good, so good that it actually became a staple.

So, what I’m getting at is, try the Holiday Pie in a different mindset, and if you come away liking it as I did, it’s worth it. If not, just stick to the good, old apple pie.
