Hawaii: Zippy’s

Oxtail soup at a fast food joint?

That’s one of the unique foods that is on the menu at Zippy’s, Hawaii’s premier fast food restaurant that makes the big chains look like scraps. Opened in 1966 by the Higa Brothers (Francis and Charles), Zippy’s became a hit right out of the gate, and today the chain has locations all across the state.

What makes Zippy’s so zippy is its eclectic menu, which, in addition to the oxtail soup, has other delicious items such as chicken katsu, sushi, and chili, which is their most famous menu item.

The Hawaiians know how to make fast food unique, and, in reality, there should be a Zippy’s in every state in this Union. Sadly, it isn’t, so buy us a plane ticket so we can enjoy some oxtail soup, please?
