Alabama: Papa Murphy’s

Alabama residents have quite a fond relationship with fast food.

According to Health.com, residents in this deep south state spend nearly 60 percent on fast food despite being ranked near the bottom in fast food restaurants per capita. Case in point, Alabama residents love food.

They especially love Papa Murphy, the quick-serve pizza joint that allows its customers to purchase a pre-made pizza and let them cook it themselves at home. According to AL.com, Papa Murphy’s was the fastest-growing food chain in the state between 2014 and 2016, which translates into the take-and-bake chain making glorious profits.

In some ways, it’s kind of awkward that Papa Murphy’s would wind up being the fast food chain of Dixieland. The chain is based in the Pacific Northwest, and Southerners hate associating themselves with anything out West (or up North).

Papa Murphy’s has been able to push through that barrier though thanks to their fantastic pizzas at cheap prices that many Alabama residents are accustomed to.
