NEW YORK, NY – JULY 11: A customer enters a Dunkin’ Donuts store in midtown Manhattan on July 11, 2011 in the New York City. 15. Dunkin’ (Formally Dunkin’ Donuts)

Claim to fame: Coffee and Donuts

The Reason:

There is a coffee war that has been raging for about a decade now.

In one corner, you have the Starbucks loyalists, and in the other, you have the Dunkin’ fanatics. Either side will try to persuade you about how great their coffee is, but for me, personally, I think Dunkin’ has the better bean.

Dunkin’, whose roots are in New England, has long had the coffee game down pat. Their stores are everywhere, and over the past few years, they have devoted much of their time branching out from the coffee and donut shop they made their name in, to be more of a hip hangout spot a la their competitor.

Their menu has also expanded, and it now includes a steep variety of breakfast sandwiches and more, though not every menu item is to be explored. Despite their rebranding and menu expansion, Dunkin’ hasn’t forgotten about the one staples that made them a household name, and their continued investment in their coffee and donuts is why they proudly occupy this spot on the power ranking.

Best menu item: Hot Coffee

Coffee is what made this franchise, and it’s the best item they have on the board. The hot coffee is consistently good, but the iced coffee depends on the location you go to (and the person making it). So, for good coffee, stick with the hot.

Worst menu item: Veggie Egg White

Flavorless, no life, no taste. I could go on and on about this terrible menu item, but I want to spare its feelings. Sure, you have some folks who like it, but, for the rest of us, it’s the worst sandwich on their menu.
