The 25 best fast food chains in America, ranked
By Kareem Gantt
14. Taco Cabana
Claim to fame: Tex-Mex and beer
The Reason:
Yes, this is a regional chain, and not everyone has experienced the goodness of Taco Cabana. However, if you live near one of these bad boys, do me a favor and skip Taco Bell and enjoy a decent fast-food taco.
Taco Cabana has been a staple in Texas’ fast-food lexicon since 1978, and the San Antonio-based chain has expanded (somewhat) to neighboring Oklahoma and New Mexico. But, it’s in its native Texas where the chain is at its best.
Their Tex-Mex cuisine is really good for it to be a fast-casual spot, and what sets this chain apart from its peers is the fact that it serves beer!
Yes, people, a fast food institution that has embraced the concept of selling alcohol!
That alone, is a great reason to rank Taco Cabana this high, but the beer really doesn’t overshadow the food, which is solid. One menu item to try is the Loaded Tacos, which, will make you ask for assistance to your car.
Best menu item: Ground Beef Taco
Simple but effective, their Ground Beef Taco will blow away anything the Bell has to offer.
Worst menu item: Shrimp Only Taco
Every fast-food joint has that one item where it proves to customers that it’s doing a bit too much. This is that item for Taco Cabana. It’s not bad, it’s just not appealing and something I would spend money on.
