23. Steak ‘n Shake

Claim to fame: Steakburgers on the cheap

The Reason:

If you’re a fan of fast food, then you have heard of Steak ‘n Shake.

You can hear their burgers sizzle on the grill and feel the smooth richness of their shakes slither down thirsty throats. This chain has also grown like gangbusters, embarking on a quest for global domination and spreading the gospel of the steakburger.

Steak ‘n Shake has also found a fanbase for its “Under $4 Menu,” which includes their iconic Double Steakburger. One aspect of Steak ‘n Shake that may catch people off guard is their breakfast skillets, which, if cooked by the right person, are a right nice treat for those in a hurry in the morning.

The problem for Steak ‘n Shake is that, as they’ve grown, they have discounted themselves. Other great steakburger joints exist (one, of which, will be listed further), and Steak ‘n Shake has now assumed the role of being the place to go if you want a steakburger without the price.

Now, that’s not a bad thing, per se, but I fear it comes at the cost of quality. Steak ‘n Shakes burgers were once famous for quality, but now that they can be found on every corner, you can taste a decline in the quality of the burger, somewhat.

Granted, they’re still good, especially for the price, but I think Steak n’ Shake is heading down a slippery slope in quality, hence why they’re here.

Best menu item: Original Double Steakburger

Seriously, you can’t go wrong with the burger that put this chain on the map. If you get to the right location with the right cook, you will find a burger that will put you in fast-food heaven.

Worst menu item: Garden Salad

Generic and has no life to them once so ever. Their Garden Salads should be Exhibit A as to why fast-food institutions shouldn’t serve salads.
