MIAMI, FL – OCTOBER 21: A Subway restaurant is seen as the company announced a settlement over a class-action lawsuit that alleged that Subway engaged in deceptive marketing for its 6-inch and 12-inch sandwiches and served customers less food than they were paying for on October 21, 2015 in Miami, Florida. While it denies the claims, Subway said that franchisees would be required to have a measurement tool in stores to make sure loaves are 12-inches. (Photo by Joe Raedle/Getty Images) /

21. Subway

Claim to fame: $5 Footlong Subs

The Reason:

Subway is the older kid on the fast-sandwich sub, and it’s beginning to show its age.

Over the past year, Subway fans have been bombarded with nothing but bad news. From its spokesperson going to prison, to the closing of stores, it’s not a great time for the iconic sub chain. Making matters worse is the fact that the $5 Footlong special, which had become their most popular product, has ended.

Despite the troubles behind the scene, Subway still makes some pretty great subs. No other sub chain can replicate the Meatball Sub, and the rest of their menu and the ingredients they use to create their subs are constantly fresh. The one item I recommend staying away from is the pizza, as you can get a better quality pizza at Little Caesars for basically the same price.

Besides, who would come to Subway for pizza, anyway? It baffles the mind.

Hopefully, Subway can right their financial ship, and put a laser focus on what it does best — making subs.

Best menu item: Meatball Marinara

Look, I know there are some people out there who hate the Meatball Marinara, but this is my ranking, and it’s my favorite, so, it’s the best menu item up here. In fact, people need to stop hating on this sandwich and give it a try.

Worst menu item: Pizza

If you’re going to a sub shop for a pizza, your life needs to be questioned.
