Heinz and The LEE Initiative are making sure they’re paying it forward. The two brands are continuing their partnership for the Black Kitchen Initiative.

These two have worked together since 2020 when the Black Kitchen Initiative was started and now in its third year, things are looking even brighter. Of course, some might be wondering what the Black Kitchen Initiative is.

As you might imagine, this is a 1mil+ grant that is given to Black-owned restaurants, chefs who are struggling, and Black food spaces. Essentially, it’s a way to show support and give a bit of help to some Black foodies out there.

If you or someone you know might benefit from the Black Kitchen Initiative, we’ve got all the details about how to apply for this year’s grant.

Heinz x The LEE Initiative team up for 3rd year of Black Kitchen Initiative

You can head to The LEE Initiative website to submit your application. The application window opened on July 14th, 2023, and closes on July 31st, 2023 at 12:00 pm. Once you finish the website, you’ll able to see if you qualify and if so, you can apply.

Honestly, it’s pretty simple in terms of applications aside from the waiting period but it can make a big difference. I feel like there are many great Black-owned food businesses out there so if you’re struggling, it’s worth a try. Plus everyone wants to leave a legacy behind and what better than the love you put into your food?

I feel like there are so many great Black-owned businesses, chefs, and general food spaces that could benefit from even a little help. Think how much this grant from Heinz and The LEE Initiative might change the game for some. It might be the stepping stone they need or that small push forward they’ve been missing as each recipient can get up to $25,000 per grant.

Thankfully, the brand shared a quote from one of the recipients of the 2021 grant and she shared just how helpful it is: “Winning the grant was so special, but receiving it during the pandemic made it even more beneficial as it was a tremendous help in staying afloat and maintaining my business during that time. It helped in allowing us to pay employees, buy supplies needed in order to run the business and fix our broken equipment….” As you can tell, lit made a real impact for Patrice Bates Thompson which is the goal but I’d love to know if you have any candidates in mind.
