Episode 6 of Crime Scene Kitchen Season 2 just came to a close. This week, there was no special guest judges or anything like that, but we did continue the trend with the savory bake in the first round, much like we did last week with the self-taught bakers. This week, the savory Safety Bake item not only sounded delicious, but the winning team’s dish made it look super delish as well!
It’s always fun to look back on episodes of shows like this because it’s fun to see what you thought of something as it was happening and watching along with it. There is certainly no other show like it: it’s got elements of being a detective and delicious desserts.
So with all of that being said, let’s dive right into the thick of it all!
If you enjoy Crime Scene Kitchen, then be sure to tune in each week on Monday, starting at 7 pm CST, where we will see some mysterious treats being made by some of America’s best bakers!
Are you ready? Let’s go!
Crime Scene Kitchen combines mystery and baking!
In case you missed week or season one, here’s the premise of the show: each week there are two challenges. In both challenges, before the baking actually begins, each team has a chance to ‘investigate’ the kitchen. There are dirty dishes, used utensils, things in the fridge, and definitely some things to fool you (quite a few this week) and throw you off guard just a bit.
Since we are switching off between the self-taught bakers and the professional-trained bakers, last week we saw the self-taughters, so that means this week, we are back with the pros!
In the fifth episode of Crime Scene Kitchen, the Safety Bake had the following clues:
- Pie dish
- Rolling pin
- Used, chilled butter
- 3 different stocks on the counter – beef, chicken, and veggie
- Bowl of used stock (only one of the three above options) – bakers should’ve tasted to pick
- Various veggies on the counter (carrots, mushrooms, and green beans)
- Brown ale in the fridge
- Rotisserie chicken in the fridge
- Menu in the drawer (with various “pot pies” on it)
- Frozen peas
- Can top in the trash – red remnants could mean tomato sauce or paste
- Beef in the fridge (both chuck and ground versions)
- Flour on the counter
- Onion skin and beer bottle caps in dust pan beneath the kitchen sink
Stop! Before you read ahead, what do you think this mystery BAKE could be?
Here’s what each team made, based off of the clues that each team saw in the Crime Scene Kitchen:
- Ricky & DJ: Beef & Ale Pie w/ Chicken Stock
- Sally & Sherry: Beef & Ale Pie w/ Beef Stock
- Laissa & Camille: Vegetable Pie w/ Vegetable Stock
- Yass & Amber: Beef & Vegetable Pie w/ Beef Stock
MYSTERY BAKE: Beef & Ale Pie w/ Beef Stock
WINNING TEAM: Sally & Sherry (finally – they totally deserve it – love them)
The second challenge in Crime Scene Kitchen is called the Elimination Bake. Whoever comes in last place this round will unfortunately be eliminated and go home.
In the Elimination Bake, here were the following clues:
- 3 – 6″ and 3 – 8″ pans in the dishwasher
- ‘Leftover’ buttercream on the cake stand
- White, pink, and red roses
- Frosting remnants of various colors: green, white, pink, and red
- AP flour
- Strawberry powder
- Pan w/ strawberry jam remnants in the sink
- Frosting tips – green remnants seen in one maybe indicating leaves being piped on the cake
- Whisk
- Flower nail
- BONUS CLUE(s): ‘Evidence bag’ w/ various cut-outs of cardboard at the bottom; pink strawberry sponge-cake crumbs at the bottom of bad and stuck to the cutouts as well
Stop! Before you read ahead, what do you think this mystery dessert could be?

- Yass & Amber: 2-Tier Strawberry Cutout Cake w/ Italian Meringue Buttercream Roses
- Ricky & DJ: 2-Tier Semi-Naked Vanilla Sponge w/ Meringue Buttercream Roses (Eliminated)

What are your thoughts on episode six of Crime Scene Kitchen, Season 2? Also: what is your personal favorite fruity flavor to put inside of a cake? I’m a lemon or raspberry lemonade lover sort of cake (fun to flavor and make layered with Jello powder, pro tip over here); however, I’m also OBSESSED with anything orange creamsicle flavored, so that would also make a bomb sick cake! Super quick poll over here: chocolate or vanilla? Let see those answers down below!
