Crime Scene Kitchen Season 2, Episode 7 Review: The Merge: A Total Crêpe Shoot
The 7th episode of the second season of Crime Scene Kitchen just came to a close this week. This week, we had yet another special guest none other than…Martina McBride! This week, the evidential Merge happened; this is when both sides of the competition come together, both the self-taught bakers and the professional bakers, in order to continue going head-to-head to size up the competition to see who all they’re up against!
Will a pro team or a ‘selfie’ team win this week? Weigh in down in the comments down below!
It’s always fun to look back on episodes of shows like this because it’s fun to see what you thought of something as it was happening and watching along with it. There is certainly no other show like it: it’s got elements of being a detective and delicious desserts.
So with all of that being said, let’s dive right into the thick of it all!
If you enjoy Crime Scene Kitchen, then be sure to tune in each week on Monday, starting at 7 pm CST, where we will see some mysterious treats being made by some of America’s best bakers!
Are you ready? Let’s go!
Crime Scene Kitchen combines mystery and baking!
In case you missed week or season one, here’s the premise of the show: each week there are two challenges. In both challenges, before the baking actually begins, each team has a chance to ‘investigate’ the kitchen. There are dirty dishes, used utensils, things in the fridge, and definitely some things to fool you (quite a few this week) and throw you off guard just a bit.
This week, The Merge happened, so we, for the very first time, saw both the self-taught bakers and the professional bakers baking all at once at a chance for the grand prize!
In the fifth episode of Crime Scene Kitchen, the Safety Bake had the following clues:
- Butter remnants on the (cheese) grater
- Seran wrap w/ tally marks on it – possibly indicating the number of dough folds
- Apple peels in the compost bin
- 1/2 sheet tray lined w/ parchment paper
- Brown sugar
- Caramelized apple remnants in the garbage
- Caramel ring on the cakestand
- Skillet in dishwasher
- Pears
- Flour
Stop! Before you read ahead, what do you think this mystery dessert could be?
Here’s what each team made, based off of the clues that each team saw in the Crime Scene Kitchen:
- T & Fadi: Apple Tarte Tatin
- Steph & Cherry: Apple Tarte Tatin
- Tarsha & Kristy: Apple Tarte Tatin
- Yass & Amber: Pear Tarte Tatin
- Laissa & Camille: Green Apple Tarte Tatin
- Sherry & Sally: Caramel Apple Gallette
MYSTERY DESSERT: Apple Tarte Tatin
WINNING TEAM: T & Fadi (super cool for them since they nearly dropped the ball with their crust)
The second challenge in Crime Scene Kitchen is called the Elimination Bake. Whoever comes in last place this round will unfortunately be eliminated and go home.
In the Elimination Bake, here were the following clues:
- AP flour
- 5 eggs out on the counter
- Milk
- Dust pan w/ a crêpe smell to it
- Tally marks – indicating the number of layers to the cake
- Vanilla extract was open on the counter
- Butter
- Crêpe pan
- Pot on stove w/ remnants of pastry cream inside of it
- 4 plates in dishwasher
- Cake ring in dishwasher
- Off-set spatula w/ chocolate ganache remnants on it
- Chocolate rings on drying racks
- Whisk in dishwasher
Stop! Before you read ahead, what do you think this mystery dessert could be?
Here’s what each team made, based off of the clues that each team saw in the Crime Scene Kitchen:
- T & Fadi: SAFE
- Sherry & Sally: 4 Sliced of 30-Layer Crêpe Cake w/ Chocolate Ganache
- Laissa & Camille: 30-Layer Crêpe Cake w/ Dark Chocolate Ganache (looked most similar)
- Yass & Amber: 30-Layer Crêpe Cake w/ Chocolate Ganache Drizzle
- Tarsha & Kristy: 20-Layer Crêpe Cake w/ Chocolate Ganache
- Steph & Cherry: 30-Layer Crêpe Cake w/ Chocolate Ganache
MYSTERY DESSERT: 30-Layer Crêpe Cake w/ Chocolate Ganache
ELIMINATED TEAM: Sherry & Sally (don’t even get me started – definitely undeserving of going home – all they did wrong was cutting it while the other team forgot 10 whole crêpe layers)
