Great Chocolate Showdown is back on The CW for season 4 and a new group of amateur bakers have made it to the kitchen and are ready to make all the chocolatey goodness. If you didn’t know, this is the show that first introduced us to T and Fadi (from Crime Scene Kitchen) and has continued to show off some extraordinary bakers. It’s also a show that really focuses on how much better the bakers get over the weeks.

The episode started off with the same judges as usual. Cynthia Stroud, Anna Olson, and Steve Hodge are back and giving the bakers challenges that are harder than ever. I kid you not that the first challenge had the bakers making chocolate dessert tic-tac-toe boards. That’s not exactly an easy first challenge. That being said, most of the bakers did extraordinarily well. I wanted to reach through the television and grab several desserts.

The judges only tasted six desserts of their choosing and only three of the bakers would be safe and not have to compete in the elimination round. But who got those three precious spots? It was Tim, Ashlee, and Alli. Their tic-tac-toe boards were the cleanest and the judges loved the taste of their desserts!

On to the elimination challenge! For this, the remaining bakers had to make three cakes that represented them. However they wanted to do that was fine, but they had to make sure to include three applications of chocolate. It is in the name of the show after all.

These desserts were not as clean or as good-looking as the desserts were in the first challenge, but it was interesting to see how the bakers represented themselves and to hear their stories. Some of the bakers are going through some tough issues! I would be crying in a corner and they are stress baking on a reality competition show!

The winner of this elimination challenge was Meredith! This was pretty shocking considering she barely finished her dessert in the first challenge. She made gorgeous desert-themed cakes that you could tell from the screen were tasty.

But who got kicked off this week? That was Raplheal. While his bake looked pretty cool with the camp theme, the judges simply thought it didn’t have enough chocolate. I’m not sure the judges made the right decision as Kristen’s cake was quite a mess, but only time will tell. Perhaps Kristen will end up winning the whole thing!
