Great Chocolate Showdown season 4 was back for episode 2 and the remaining nine bakers were challenged to make amazing chocolate creations yet again. But while the first episode featured some difficult tasks, this episode, they were even more difficult. And cheese was involved!

The first challenge had the bakers making 3D chocolate bars that included nougat. I know what you’re thinking. Isn’t a regular chocolate bar 3D? Yes, but these chocolate bars had to be figural. If they made a bear, it couldn’t be flat. It had to be shaped like a bear that could be held. It’s not an easy challenge!

The bakers chose shapes like cowboy boots, teddy bears, airplanes, cameras, and dogs. Most of them were incredibly cute, but some crashed and burned. For example, the wings of the airplane kept cracking off. There were also issues with the nougat. It was either the wrong consistency or the flavor wasn’t right. And on top of that, the judges were only tasting six of the nine desserts, so if your bake looked horrible but tasted amazing, they probably weren’t picking it.

So who came out on top? The top three who received safety were Tim, Kristen, and Charli. All their chocolate bars looked DELICIOUS!

Great Chocolate Showdown was all about chocolate and cheese this week

On to the elimination challenge! This time, the remaining six bakers had to make a dessert combining chocolate and cheese. The cheeses used (one for each baker) included gruyere, Parmigiano Reggiano, manchego, goat cheese, aged white cheddar, and brie. Just the thought of these cheeses with chocolate sounds awful, but based on the results and the judges’ comments, some of the desserts turned out pretty good.

The top two bakers in this challenge were Meredith (again!) and Ally and the winner was…Ally! Based on plating alone, she did amazing! But the fact that she also had to somehow mix manchego and chocolate together and she was just adding it by eye…that is some genius business right there!

But who was in the bottom two? That was Ashlee and Donna. Their flavors just weren’t impressive to the judges this week and Donna was the one to go home. This wasn’t too big of a surprise as her cream filling was split and the judges do not play when it comes to that.

Next week on the Great Chocolate Showdown, the bakers have to make pies with decorative crusts (probably made of chocolate, if I had to guess), and then they will have to make a dessert that showcases “one of the major taste sensations.”
