Crime Scene Kitchen Season 2, Episode 10 Review: The Finale: I Need a Drink!

The finale of Crime Scene Kitchen just came and went; all of a sudden, this season has gone by in the blink of an eye and the winners have officially been crowned (but more on that later on). This week, there were no special guests, but also no safety bake; this meant that while there were still two different bakes and two different Crime Scene Kitchens, that no one was safe in the first one. Everyone moved onto the Final Bake and whoever did the best across the board this week were the winners. Personally, I think that an entire season should be under consideration and not just one episode, but you can make that judgement for yourselves.

Good luck to all three teams this week!

It’s always fun to look back on episodes of shows like this because it’s fun to see what you thought of something as it was happening and watching along with it. There is certainly no other show like it: it’s got elements of being a detective series and delicious desserts.

With just one self-taught team left, will they win, or will one of the professional teams win?

Are you ready? Let’s go!

Crime Scene Kitchen combines mystery and baking!

In case you missed week or season one, here’s the premise of the show: each week there are two challenges. In both challenges, before the baking actually begins, each team has a chance to ‘investigate’ the kitchen. There are dirty dishes, used utensils, things in the fridge, and definitely some things to fool you (quite a few this week) and throw you off guard just a bit.

In the tenth episode of Crime Scene Kitchen, the First Bake had the following clues:

  • Pounded butter (in the shape of a rectangle) in the fridge
    • Suggests a fully laminated dough
  • Baking sheet
  • Popover pan
    • With grease residue in it
  • Muffin tin
  • Bread flour
  • Eggs
  • Milk
  • Strawberries
  • 2 empty pastry piping bags in the trash
    • One had strawberry jam remnants and the other cream cheese
  • 2 bismark piping tips
    • Indicating a post-bake filling component
  • Rolling pin

Stop! Before you read ahead, what do you think this mystery dessert could be?

Here’s what each team made, based off of the clues that each team saw in the Crime Scene Kitchen:

  • T & Fadi: Strawberries & Cream Croissants
  • Laissa & Camille: Strawberries & Cream Cruffins
  • Amber & Yass: Strawberries & Cream Cruffins

The second challenge in Crime Scene Kitchen is called the Elimination Bake, but this week we’re calling it the Final Bake. No one comes in last, but whoever wins the bake, wins the show!!

In the Final Bake, here were the following clues:

  • Tons of butter boxes in the trash
  • 9 cake pans (indicating a 3 tier, 3 layer cake was made)
  • Cocktail sheet on the fridge (different ingredients and recipes per drink)
  • Pan/pot w/ curd remnants (either lime or lemon was made)
  • Two zesters
    • One contained lime zest and the other grated ginger
  • Dark rum
  • Rum simply syrup on the stove
  • Pineapple in the fridge
  • Maraschino cherries in the fridge
  • Ginger
  • Decorating utensils
    • Umbrella, bamboo, leaves (made out of wafer paper), fondant

Stop! Before you read ahead, what do you think that this FINAL mystery dessert could be?

Here’s what each team made, based off of the clues that each team saw in the Crime Scene Kitchen:

  • T & Fadi: Cherry & Pineapple “Mai Tai Cake” w/ Lime Curd
  • Laissa & Camille: Pineapple & Coconut “Piña Colada Cake” w/ Lime Buttercream
  • Amber & Yass: Vanilla “Piña Colada Cake” w/ Citrus Curd and Lime & Coconut Buttercream

MYSTERY DESSERT: Dark & Stormy Cake

For the first time this season, ever, not a single team made the correct mystery dessert. To me, that was pretty surprising. I thought that for certain one of the teams would nail it right on the head and we’d have a clear winner; however that was pretty far from the case this week.

That being said, the winners of Season 2 of Crime Scene Kitchen are…….Amber & Yass!!

Huge congratulations to Amber & Yass for winning and coming out ahead of everyone else this season. Throughout the whole entire show, this team’s been pretty consistent, minus just a few bumps in the road that everyone has now and again (especially on shows like this with all of the stress and added pressure that comes week after week).

Check out this super cool interview with Amber & Yass as they talk about their new titles!
