Great Chocolate Showdown season 4 was back on The CW for episode 3, and this was definitely not the best episode for the bakers (or the judges). Things were burning, cakes didn’t come out of molds, and decorations did not look like what they were supposed to be. Steve Hodge also went down a slide that looked like a tongue and…you have to watch it to understand.

The episode started off with the bakers having to make a pie with an elaborate chocolate decoration. And only five of the pies would be tasted by the judges. Some of these were truly brilliant. Ally’s was particularly gorgeous. She made a sunset on top of her pie with ocean waves that looked truly extraordinary.

Others did not have much luck. While Meredith’s snowglobe pie looked pretty, her crust was underdone. Tim’s wasn’t tasted, but his dragon decoration looked like anything but.

But who won the Sweet Safety? That was Ally, Mike, and Emma! The rest of the bakers had to continue on to the elimination challenge.

Great Chocolate Showdown was a bit of a mess this week

For the elimination challenge, the bakers had to choose a flavor sensation and make a plated chocolate dessert that properly represented it. The sensations they had to choose from included spicy, savory, bitter, sour, and salty.

Meredith got sour, Charli received salty, Kristen chose savory, Ashlee got bitter, and Tim received spicy.

This challenge had its fair share of issues as well. Meredith’s cakes would not come out of the pan and she had to remake them, and I was very worried about Charli’s dessert being too salty. Luckily, that wasn’t the case, and he had one of the judges’ favorite desserts of this challenge.

But it was Kristen who won using her skills to make a truly extraordinary savory chocolate dessert!

Unfortunately, not everyone made a dessert that impressed the judges. Meredith and Ashlee were in the bottom two and it was Meredith who ended up going home. There simply wasn’t enough sourness in her dessert.

Next week, the bakers will have to make fruit jellies and chocolate sculptures and then they will need to create entremets that look like a piece of fruit.
