Great Chocolate Showdown season 4 was back on The CW this week, and episode 4 was all about fruit! Both challenges had fruit at the center of them, but if you thought that made the challenges easier, you’d be dead wrong. These were probably the most difficult challenges that have ever been on the series.

For the first challenge, the bakers had to make a chocolate mold of whatever shape they wanted. They then had to cover that chocolate with pate de fruit (which is pretty much fancy gummy candy). They also had to make a dessert to go under their chocolate mold. Oh and did I mention they only had two and a half hours to do this?? The judges had clearly lost their minds this week.

The bakers’ choice of shapes included everything from a dog to a dragon to Mother Earth. While some of these looked extraordinary (Ally and Emma’s particularly), others were…less than great. I’m looking at you, Tim. Luckily, Tim still had the golden spatula, and he used it to automatically be put into Sweet Safety.

The other person to make it into Sweet Safety was Emma. Her pug dessert looked amazing and her pate de fruit actually turned out great, which was not the case for most of the bakers.

Great Chocolate Showdown was more difficult than ever this week

On to the elimination challenge! For this challenge, the remaining bakers had to make entremets shaped like specific fruits. They got to choose from different options. Ashlee chose coconut, Ally got lemons, Mike picked pears, Charli chose mangos, and Kristen got cherries.

The mousse was really the issue in this challenge. It was just not setting fast enough for some of the bakers and that affected how their entremets looked. Mike, Kristen, and Ally’s entremets looked the best, but Mike, Kristen, and Ashlee had the best-tasting desserts.

But who won? That was Mike! His pear entremet looked exactly like a shiny pear, and according to the judges, it tasted great too. Kristen and Ashlee were also safe.

That left Ally and Charli in the bottom two, and it was Charli who went home. His mousse, unfortunately, melted before it got to the judges.

Next week, the bakers will be pairing up in teams of two to make a meringue tower. They will also have to create a dessert using a specific international ingredient.
