Halloween Baking Championship season 9 was back for the penultimate episode. I can’t believe the show is almost ending. This week, it was all about tattooed desserts inspired by grandmas and desserts that can be dropped and smashed and still taste delicious.

First up, the Thriller Challenge! This week, the final four bakers had to make a torta della nonna with monster tattoos (of their choice) painted on the top. They also had to choose one type of citrus to include in their tart. The options included orange, kumquat, lemon, and pomelo. Hollie got pomelo, Stacey picked orange, Ryan chose kumquat, and James received lemon.

These were all pretty cool, but as the queen of tattoos, there was no way Hollie wasn’t winning this challenge. The judges loved the flavor of her torta della noona, and they liked her tattoo decorations as well. They particularly liked that she included a little tattoo gun.

On to the Killer Challenge! For this challenge, the bakers had to make a chocolate orb that had to be filled with a sauce and a baked element. Because Hollie won the Thriller, she got to choose the type of chocolate she wanted to use. She chose dark chocolate, so no one else was able to use it.

Final three announced on Halloween Baking Championship this week

The twist was that the bakers had to include an ingredient that a bodybuilder might eat and included items like walnuts, almonds, chickpeas, and pumpkin seeds. James picked chickpeas, Hollie got almonds, Ryan chose pumpkin seeds, and Stacey got walnuts.

While the results of the first challenge were impressive, this challenge was spectacular. All the orbs looked creepy and like they were actually real. And it got even better when they smashed them in front of the judges.

There were really only a few critiques from the judges on this challenge. They thought Stacey’s dessert was too soggy, Ryan’s cake was a little dry, and they did not like James’s chickpeas.

So who came out on top? That was once again Hollie. She keeps improving and creating more and more spectacular (and creepy) desserts every week.

Who went home? That was, unfortunately, Stacey. I really wanted her to make it into the final three, but the judges just weren’t in love with her bakes this week.

Next week is the finale! The final three bakers will have to make flourless desserts and a cakescape showing off new carnival attractions.
