Nissin’s Cup Noodles, the instant noodle soup that comes in a variety of flavors, has long been a staple of the diet of a certain type of person. Usually that person is either a broke college student, someone trying to stay on top of their bills or just someone not inclined to cook.

And while no one will ever accuse Cup Noodles of being a healthy choice, they can’t argue that it’s a really cheap and easy to prepare choice. You literally just add hot water to the cup and boom, a couple minutes later dinner is served.

Well, the wait time to make a Cup Noodles is going to get even shorter because soup waits for no man or woman and three minutes is an eternity. People is reporting that for the first time in its 50 year history, the soup will be microwaveable.

Microwaveable Cup Noodles will be available starting in early 2024.

Yes, that’s right. The iconic styrofoam cup that has been used to cook Cup Noodles is going to be replaced with a new design that is 40 percent recycled material and will be microwave safe. Which means you won’t have to use hot water anymore.

The new design is in part to make the meal more convenient and also to make the product more eco-friendly, which is all the rage right now. The styrofoam container has never been a good choice for the environment but that never seemed an issue to the folks who enjoy Cup Noodles.

Now before you panic, no, the recipe for the noodles and the soup itself is not changing at all. That classic flavor that you remember so well from your college dorm will be exactly the same as it always was.

But with the new packaging, it will mean that instead of taking three minutes to cook, Cup Noodles will only take two minutes and fifteen seconds to cook in the microwave. Yep, you’re getting back forty-five seconds of your life that you used to waste making Cup Noodles.

The new and updated Cup Noodles packaging will start arriving on store shelves sometime in early 2024.
