Holiday Baking Championship was back for episode 2 of season 10, and the bakers had a pretty stressful time this episode. It wasn’t all the bakers, but it was definitely more than one or two. And considering it’s only week two, that doesn’t say great things for the weeks to come.

But the challenges weren’t exactly simple this week. For the Preheat Challenge, the bakers had to make turkey dome desserts. Under their domes, they could make whatever dessert they wanted, but their dome had to be shaped and decorated like a turkey.

Time management was the biggest issue here. By the time the clock started running out, the decorations were barely going on for a few of the bakers. There were also structural issues with a few bakes. Mousses didn’t freeze in time, decorations didn’t work, and desserts were melting.

Who won this first challenge? It was Javier! The judges practically fainted when eating his turkey dome dessert, so he won the advantage. What was the advantage? He had to pick between a mousse cake and an opera cake, and whatever his choice was would be what everyone had to make. He chose opera cake!

Holiday Baking Championship was all about turkey this week

But it wasn’t just an opera cake. It also had to feature a whole Thanksgiving dinner table on top!

Once again, time management was a major issue. Jennifer barely got any decorations on her cake and because Alex had to remake her buttercream a few times, she was in a rush to finish. A few other bakers had some issues as well, but not as many as these two. And because of that, it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise that they were in the bottom two.

But who came out on top? That was Justine! Her cake was absolutely gorgeous. She knows what her strengths are (cookies), and she used those to decorate the cake. It looked perfect.

So who went home? This week, it was Alex. This wasn’t a huge surprise. She is one of the home bakers, and she had to ask for quite a bit of help throughout the challenges. The judges also thought her cake ate like a cracker, which is never a good thing.

Next week, the bakers will have to make a holiday 7-layer dessert, and then they will go head-to-head in the show’s first pie-off.
