When it comes to holiday feasts, sometimes it is not about the main dish, it is all about the sides. And thanks to a new study, we have an idea of the most popular sides for Christmas dinner.

Christmas dinner can be different for everyone. And that makes sense as we all celebrate differently. But what are some of the most popular sides during the holiday season?

Thanks to the curious folks at BonusFinder.com, we not only know the most popular side dish by state, but we also have the top 10 most popular sides across the United States this Christmas season. And you might be surprised by what made the number one spot.

Here are the top 10 sides for Christmas across the U.S.

  • 10. Salad – 12.4% of survey respondents chose salad as a favorite Christmas side (And we want to know what kind of salad you enjoy during the holidays. Do you shake things up with your salads for holiday meals?)
  • 9. Cranberry Sauce – 13.6% chose this side (This is not surprising to us since a lot of people opt for turkey at Christmas too.)
  • 8. Green Bean Casserole – 14.3% of respondents chose this side
  • 7. Dressing – 14.9% of people went with this side (Again, with turkey being a popular Christmas protein, this makes sense.)
  • 6. Deviled Eggs – 18.8% of people chose this as a popular side (Honestly, I have never considered deviled eggs as a side dish, but rather as an appetizer or an hors d’oeuvre of some kind. But now that it has been chosen as a popular side dish, I might need to reconsider things.)
  • 5. Macaroni and Cheese – 20.5% of people chose this as a popular Christmas side (Can you ever go wrong with mac and cheese? We think not!)
  • 4. Gravy – 20.9% of people chose this as a side (The fact that gravy is a side is what has me scratching my head, but I guess I get it.)
  • 3. Stuffing – 21.1% chose this side (This is very much in line with the fact that turkey is a popular Christmas protein. And for us, it does make sense that dressing and stuffing are considered separate sides since technically they are made differently.)
  • 2. Mashed Potatoes – 26% of people love their mashed potatoes (This is such a given that it actually surprises me that it is not number one on the list.)
  • 1. Bread or Rolls – 26.4% of people are bread lovers (Honestly, this is another surprise because much like gravy we wouldn’t have associated with a side. However, we love fresh rolls and bread so we are not mad at this being the number one side dish at Christmas.)

Honestly, we love finding out what people love with their holiday meals. And while most of these side dishes didn’t surprise us that much, there were some shocks on this list. But maybe that is just us and how we have experienced a Christmas dinner!

What is your favorite side dish at Christmas? Did any of these popular sides surprise you? Do these results surprise you at all?
