Christmas may be in the rearview, but the New Year is the perfect opportunity to turn the page—and what better way to celebrate than with a shot of exceptional tequila? Whether you're toasting to 2024 at midnight or enjoying these picks later in the year, these tequilas promise to deliver bold flavors and unforgettable moments.
Jose Cuervo Mistletoe Margarita Mix
This limited-edition drink from Jose Cuervo is a must-have this holiday season. Imagine spiked cranberry juice with hints of orange, lime, and warm winter spice. This ready-to-drink cocktail is like happiness in a bottle. My family and I enjoyed this bottle so much that it was finished in about an hour. The popular tequila brand isn't usually known for mixed drinks, so what made them try something new? Jose Cuervo Mistletoe Margarita meets the growing demand for ready-to-serve cocktails and will likely be a favorite for hosting holiday guests. Mistletoe Margarita has a 9.95% ABV and costs around $18.
LALO Tequila
One of the fastest-growing tequila brands, it is a must-try. LALO'S founder, Eduardo Gonzalez, is the grandson of Don Julio Gonzalez, a well-known name in the spirits industry. It has a bold flavor with a smooth finish. Plus, it didn’t leave my chest or throat burning, which is a nice bonus. Because of this LALO is a great choice for crafting mixed drinks that won't overpower your cocktail. It's the perfect time for a Cinnamon Apple Margarita. Made with seasonal ingredients like apple cider and cinnamon, which most people already have. This cocktail is the perfect compliment for any meal.
Teremana Tequila
Founded in 2019 by Dwayne "The Rock Johnson," Teremana Tequila pays homage to Jalisco Highlands. It's made from 100% fully mature agave, slow roasted in traditional brick ovens, distilled in handmade copper pot stills, and exclusively made at Destilería Teremana de Agave under its unique NOM 1613. Available in Blanco, Reposado, and Añejo varieties, Teremana is celebrated for its taste and dedication to environmentally friendly practices, such as repurposing agave fibers and using sustainable packaging. Whether you're sipping it straight or mixing up a margarita, Teremana Tequila delivers a spirit that's deeply connected to its roots.
Patron Cristalino
Loved in Mexico for its smooth taste and gaining fans in the U.S., Patron Cristalino offers tequila lovers a new and modern option while staying true to Mexican traditions. Like all Patron tequilas, Cristalino has three simple ingredients—100% Weber Blue Agave, water, and yeast. I'm not going to lie; while full of flavor, this crystal-clear tequila burned my throat a little. It's not a negative, as I prefer mixed drinks anyway. The straight shot is not what I'm used to. Speaking of mixed drinks, I mixed it with orange juice the next time I tried it, and it was fantastic.
