If you haven’t heard of the Savannah Bananas, you have likely been living under a rock. Founded in Savannah, Georgia, in 2016, the team started as a collegiate summer baseball squad — and has since skyrocketed into one of the hottest tickets in all of entertainment. Known for their fast-paced style of play and Harlem Globetrotters-like showmanship, the Bananas are currently on a nationwide tour, selling out everything from football stadiums to MLB parks. And with big crowds come big appetites.
Enter the Banana Dog.
Making its much-anticipated debut this weekend at Kauffman Stadium — home of the Kansas City Royals — the Banana Dog will be served during Friday and Saturday’s Bananas games. This unique treat features a banana dropped on top of a caramelized New England roll, topped with whipped cream, sliced strawberries, and a drizzle of Hershey’s syrup. It’s the kind of over-the-top ballpark snack perfect for going, well, bananas.
Even if you can't make the two games in Kansas City, the special treat will be available on some of the other legs of the Banana's tour. The dog can be found at Fenway Park (July 5-6), Citizens Bank Park (July 26-27), Coors Field (August 9-10), and PNC Park (August 29-30).
“Like the Savannah Bananas, the fan is our No. 1 priority and our team strives to deliver dynamic food and beverage experiences that create memories and leave a lasting impression,” said Alison Birdwell, President and CEO of Aramark Sports + Entertainment in a press release. “We are thrilled to collaborate with the Bananas to further enhance the incredible fan-first atmosphere they deliver at each of their games and know the Banana Dog will be a hit for Summer 2025.”
If you plan on seeing a Bananas game this year and were not one of the lucky raffle winners to get first dibs on cheaper tickets, be prepared to dish out some money. These tickets are regularly listed at a $200 for the get-in price on ticket resell sites - making it as expensive as seeing your favorite artist.
Still, I hope to catch a Bananas game one day. And if you find yourself at one of the tour stops, maybe give the Banana Dog a try. It’s just one more way the Bananas are redefining the ballpark experience.
