Here is our take on the My Better Batch 'better than homemade' cookie mixes

We tried all four varieties: Chocolate Chunk, Double Chocolate Chip, Classic Sugar, and Celebration

Every day is a good day to eat cookies, but especially with National Chocolate Chip Cookie day on the horizon (August 4), we decided to try out the My Better Batch cookie mixes that claim to be "better than homemade."

My Better Batch is a North Carolina based company started in 2022 by 40-something single mother Lindsay Hancock who was looking for a faster way to make delicious cookies in our busy on-the-go world.

The mixes are sold separately ($7.99) or together in four box variety packs ($29.99). The four flavors are chocolate chunk, double chocolate chip, classic sugar, and celebration. The mixes can also be used and combined to make Choco-Sugar Mash-Up Cookies, S'mores Bliss Cookies, Strawberry Birthday Bash Cookies, Snickerdoodle Cookies, and many other varieties with recipes found on the My Better Batch website.

Our My Better Batch review

After baking the four varieties, we found pros and cons associated with our My Better Batch experience.

My Better Batch Pros

1. The cookie batter mixes in one bowl. Gone are the separate bowls for wet and dry ingredients that need to be gradually combined. Less dishes equals less time and more convenience.

2. The cookies bake quickly, in 9 to 11 minutes, and each box of mix yields approximately 16 cookies.

3. There are minimal additional ingredients needed beyond the mix. One egg and one stick of butter are it.

My Better Batch Cons

1. The instructions call for softened butter which is critical. We were never able to get the butter the correct softened consistency to make the mixing easy. Since butter and egg are the only additions, we found mixing somewhat difficult because there seemed to be more mix (each box contains 16 oz. of cookie mix) than wet ingredients. We did not melt the butter but wonder if that would have produced for an easier mixing experience.

2. It is imperative to pay attention to the instruction of spacing the unbaked cookies 2 1/2 inches apart on the parchment-lined cookie sheet. These cookies spread and become one large cookie if that instruction is overlooked (which we might have done.)

My Better Batch Taste Test

Per usual, I asked several people to sample the finished product to get multiple opinions. Everyone had a different favorite which means there is definitely a My Better Batch mix to suit everyone's taste buds.

Are they better than homemade as the package states? That is hard to say. In terms of time and convenience to prepare, yes they are. Do they taste better than homemade? If they are prepared correctly and the butter is softened perfectly to make a homogenous mix, they can be, but following the directions is critical to getting that result. Mine did not measure up because of spacing and mixing issues, but that does not mean your experience will be the same.

One thing is for sure, all of the baked cookies were eaten, and like homemade cookies, my testers verified that they tasted the best when dipped in milk.

Conclusion

My Better Batch has attractive product packaging, a great mission and message from a women-owned business, and uses non-GMO products. They may or may not be better than your homemade cookies, but that depends on your baking acumen and ability to follow the package directions.

My Better Batch is sold on Amazon or directly on the website. The company is planning an upcoming National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day promotion. All customers who buy a variety pack of mixes on the My Better Batch website between August 4 and August 7 will receive a free box of the Chocolate Chunk mix.
