If you remember the Chicken Sandwich Wars of 2019 (which extended well past 2019), then you might not be surprised to learn that we have a new fast food chicken war brewing. And it sounds like the initial shots fired are coming from the OG fast food chicken chain, KFC.
On April 24, McDonald's announced that they would be introducing their newest addition to the menu in the form of their McCrispy Strips and a new dipping sauce to go with it. Considering these chicken strips are meant to be a permanent addition to the menu when they drop on May 5, it actually makes a lot of sense that fast food chicken restaurants might have some thoughts.
And it seems that KFC is definitely responding to the news. Not only are they responding with an ad campaign that is taking shots at the burger spot for trying to go big with the chicken, but they are also rewarding the rest of us.
KFC is celebrating their own chicken tenders with a deal for Rewards members
According to a press email we received on behalf of KFC, "on Monday, 5/5 – a day when preTENDERS are trying to be conTENDERS – KFC® is dropping a competitive digital exclusive offer on its Original
Recipe® Tenders – five tenders for just $5, exclusively for KFC Rewards members from 5/5-5/11."

Considering the Original Recipe chicken from KFC is not only iconic, but also delicious, it makes sense that in this war, they might just be coming out on top. And with a $5 deal for KFC Rewards members to enjoy, we can all get involved in this new chicken war.
In a statement from KFC's U.S. president they shared, "Why settle for a tender from a burger chain when you can get a deal on what we believe is the best tasting tender, from the OG of fried
chicken? With this deal we’re giving our customers a reason to try the finger lickin’ good flavor of our tenders and judge for themselves."
Honestly, I am here for the chicken tender wars of 2025. Now we just have to wait to see if any other fast food chicken restaurants jump into the fray. But at least right now, it sounds like KFC might be leading the charge.
