Today, it is time to crown another Super Bowl champion. With storylines like the Chiefs having a chance for a three-peat or the Eagles winning their first Super Bowl since their win over the New England Patriots in 2018, the stakes couldn't be higher for either team.
While what's happening on the field may be exciting, many people watch the Super Bowl for the commercials. With that in mind, I have compiled a list of my top five favorite food/beverage commercials from my lifetime.
1. PopCorners Breaking Bad Ad (2023)
As a Breaking Bad fan, PopCorner perfectly brought back the nostalgia of the iconic TV series. With appearances from main characters Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) and Walter White (Bryan Cranston) paired with the surprise of Tuco Salamanca (Raymond Cruz), the spot serves as a love letter to the fans who have supported Breaking Bad all those years.
2. Budweiser Old School Delivery (2024)
It's hard to find a more uplifting and sentimental ad than the one that Budweiser rolled out in 2024. After the company dealt with some past controversy, this 60-second spot featured an iconic part of the brand for so long in the Clydesdales. As someone who has seen them in person, I found that very cool, and I felt like they did a great job of telling a story in such a short period.
3. Betty White Snickers (2010)
When this ad debuted in 2010, no one expected to see Betty White, one of the most iconic faces in American television, tackled on a football field. Yet, that’s what Snickers delivered in its first “You’re Not You When You’re Hungry” commercial. With its humor and the late Betty White’s undeniable charm, the spot remains one of the most memorable Super Bowl ads of the 21st century.
4. Steven Tyler Skittles (2016)
Best known as the frontman of Aerosmith, Steven Tyler's iconic vocals from hits like "Dream On" and "Walk This Way" make him a familiar face. In this 2016 Super Bowl ad, he comes face to face with a painting of himself. The painting, made of Skittles, sings back to him with his legendary voice, inviting viewers to "taste the rainbow" while adding a rock-and-roll twist.
5. Michael Bublé Bubly (2019)
Some of the best Super Bowl ads are lighthearted and clever, and this 2019 spot checks both boxes. Canadian singer Michael Bublé humorously corrects the sparkling water brand Bubly’s name to match his own, adding a personal and comedic touch that resonated with audiences.
