Papa Johns has a new international pizza offering that needs to come here ASAP

If there’s one place that consistently delivers high-quality pizza, it’s Papa John’s. And lately, the chain has been on a roll with new and returning menu items. Not long ago, they launched their cheddar crust pizza and breadsticks — a cheesy twist that quickly became one of my personal favorites. They also announced that the Shaq-a-Roni pizza, a supersized fan favorite, is now a permanent menu item. And just when it seemed they couldn’t push the crust envelope any further, they’ve gone and done it again — this time with an item available only outside the States for now.

Say hello to Croissant Pizza

We all know the struggle sometimes when it comes to tempting items being released strictly internationally. I recently found out that McDonald's has a Cotton Candy Shake (only available in Canada). But yesterday, I received news from Papa Johns that a Croissant Pizza is following that trend, at least for now.

According to the company, the pizza features a buttery, flaky, golden crust and is set to arrive in nine different international markets, including Dubai, Korea, China, and Peru. Then, hopefully, we will eventually see this item make its way to the United States.

Now, we’ve seen crust creativity before. Little Caesars introduced a pretzel crust. Domino’s, albeit a little late to the trend, debuted a stuffed crust. Pizza Hut once even dabbled with a Doritos crust. But to my knowledge, this is the first time a major pizza chain has done a croissant dough.

Croissants on pizza?

I don't know about you, but I think having the French pastry serve as a crust could actually work. As someone who is a big believer that the crust is one of the most vital parts of a pizza, what's better than enjoying the buttery goodness of a croissant after you munch down on the cheese, sauce, and toppings of your pizza?

Will we see it in U.S. stores? No word yet. But if you’re traveling to one of the countries testing the item this summer, give it a try — and let the rest of us know if croissant crust lives up to the hype.

Fingers crossed, it arrives here soon.
