7-Eleven brings Japanese cuisine to American markets
By Trey Weston
A lot of times, it seems that some of the best releases hit international markets but never make it to the US. It also appeared that 7-Eleven would never add any new items besides the iconic Slurpee and other items you find when you pop your head into a location. But now, the company is bringing unique options from Japan.
After a YouTube video highlighted the vision to bring Japanese items to the US, 7-Eleven is finally doing so. The company has announced that there will be several new items that will be hitting select locations across the nation.
"Our team draws inspiration from around the world to introduce new items like Mangonada donuts with Tajin, barbecue pork sliders, chicken curry bowls, and everything breakfast sandwiches that can be found at select 7-Eleven, Speedway, and Stripes stores across the country," a 7-Eleven spokesperson said to the Today Show.
The move is a promising development for the popular Dallas-based convenience store. And it makes sense when you consider that the company is Japanese-owned after it was purchased by Seven and I Holdings in 2005.
That said, it appears the company has turned a new leaf. What has long been known as the place for Slurpees and cholesterol-laden foods is focusing on bringing items that have worked in Japan. And I think this is a positive for everyone.
Those fretting about the potential of losing any of the main food items shouldn't be concerned. The company is just focusing on adding a few items that have seen success in the Japanese Kobini (convenience store).
Ultimately, having a few more items the next time you pop into a 7-Eleven is a promising opportunity -- especially with the delicious options they have listed.
Will you be heading to 7-Eleven to try these new items? Is Japanese food in your rotation?
