Deadpool & Wolverine, the latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) that mashes together Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine (and probably a ton more characters, as well), is easily going to be one of the biggest films of the year. And Reynolds is about to make it go even bigger by tying his gin company, Aviation American Gin, into the merry Marvel madness.
“I discovered Aviation American Gin while shooting the first Deadpool movie,” said Ryan Reynolds, Aviation American Gin's Co-Owner via a press release provided to Guilty Eats. “Back then Aviation wasn’t big enough to tie-in to a big summer movie and Deadpool was lucky to get any sponsors at all. A few hundred weeks and drinks later, here we are! They grow up so quickly, don’t they?”
Luckily, this new line doesn’t taste like Deadpool because: gross. I’m also sort of doubtful that Wolverine would drink gin, preferring to stick with a nice Canadian beer. So instead of Deadpool flavors (chimichanga Negronis, anyone?), you’re getting six distinct Deadpool-inspired bottles.
Designed by Reynolds’ Maximum Effort company and Sandstorm Partners, the new bottles are encased in black glass, accented with red strip stamps and metallic details, and have six different Deadpool icons. The case, meanwhile, is meant to look like Deadpool’s suit fabric, which he wears in the upcoming movie as well as in the first two Deadpool films, as well.
“The ‘Deadpool’ film franchise has been a cultural phenomenon since its inception,” said Holly Frank, Walt Disney Studios’ VP, Partnership Management and Operations, Marvel. “We’re so excited to be collaborating with Aviation American Gin to give fans a chance to engage with the world of Deadpool in a whole new way leading up to the eagerly anticipated theatrical release of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’.”
It’s honestly sort of wild to think how prevalent not only Deadpool has become in pop culture, but that the only MCU film released this year will have a gin tie-in. You didn’t see Ant-Man and the Wasp with a vodka tie-in, did you? You did not.
The new bottles will be available while supplies last at retailers nationwide, as well as online and at the Aviation American Gin Portland Distillery for $25.
