Ranking the 5 best Sonic Drive-In slushes to slurp on this summer

The beverage menu at Sonic Drive-In is seemingly endless, but I’ve narrowed the slushes down to our five favorite sips! Did your favorite make my top five?

It doesn’t matter what your beverage of choice is during the summer season (or any season, for that matter), Sonic Drive-In is sure to have it! The rule at Sonic is, that if you can imagine it, Sonic can create it. Okay, I made that rule up just now, but it’s not too far of a stretch from the truth. Think of a drink and Sonic Drive-In probably has it. 

When Sonic invited me to have a sip (or a dozen) of their popular Slushes, I did not hesitate to race to the location closest to me. Free Sonic Drive-In drinks? You don’t have to tell me twice! And now, the verdict is in! Here are the top five Sonic Slushes and what each bev pairs with best from an expert (aka me).  

#5: Lemonade Slush 

Hear me out on this one! I know lemonade is a summer staple, but that’s why I’m ranking it last on this list. Be it a regular glass with tons of ice, a Slush, or even the flavor of a snow cone, we’ve all enjoyed a lemonade many times. And we will continue to do so. Lemonade is here to stay, so let’s shine the light on other flavors, shall we? Now, what to pair the Lemonade Slush with? Go to the Sonic Drive-In near you, park, close your eyes, and point to something on the menu. Sorta joking aside, lemonade goes well with anything. But if I had to offer a suggestion, get the Buffalo Chicken Dip Bites. 

#4: Cherry Slush 

I know I’m going to get a lot of hate for ranking the Cherry Slush from Sonic higher than Lemonade. But I have already stated my reasons! And yes, I know the Cherry Slush is super sweet (probably too sweet for our own good), but that’s okay! If your tastebuds are searching for a sweet treat over a refreshing one, pick up a Cherry Slush. You won’t be disappointed – and yes, there’s even a cherry on top! Pair the Cherry Slush with something that is not sweet! Trust me, the Cherry Slush is sweet enough. I suggest a corn dog or Sonic’s new Groovy Fries. Or why not both? Let's make this a meal.

#3: Mango Slush 

Is the Mango Slush from Sonic sweet? No, not so much. Is it refreshing? Absolutely. Sonic’s Mango Slush is the go-to bev for when you want a drink that will refresh your senses without overpowering them with sweetness. And who doesn’t love mango? It has only a hint of mango, but it's the right amount for a Slush to cool off with. I would pair this with a Chili Cheese Coney. 

#2: Blue Coconut 

I’ll let you in on a little secret, foodie friends. I’m a guilty eater, but I’m a picky one when it comes to certain things, and coconut-flavored food and drinks are one of them. But the Blue Coconut Slush from Sonic? Yes, please! As you may have already figured out by how high I’m ranking the Blue Coconut Slush from Sonic, I’m a big fan. This is the ideal drink for sweet summer meets fun vibes. It is sweet, but just the right amount to allow your tastebuds to freshen up. I would pair the Blue Coconut Slush with some chicken tenders. 

#1: Strawberry Slush 

If the Strawberry Slush were the only flavor Sonic Slush I could have for the rest of my days, I would be just fine with that! This is an all-time favorite and I’m glad none of the flavors above were able to unseat this champ. What to pair the Strawberry Slush with? Nothing. It’s really not necessary. You can enjoy a cool Strawberry Slush from Sonic with anything, everything, or nothing at all.
