Chipotle is giving away thousands of free burritos during the NBA Finals
If there’s one thing that makes us dribble, it’s the thought of a delicious Chipotle burrito. If there are two things, it’s that burrito, and also basketball, where dribbling is a part of the sport, but means something entirely different. And now, you can meld your two definitions for dribbling because Chipotle is giving away thousands of free burritos as part of the NBA Finals.
At least, I assume it’s the NBA Finals, as the chain refers to it as the “2024 Men’s Professional Basketball Championship Series,” which I’m guessing is some sort of “don’t call it the Super Bowl, it’s the Big Game” thing? Whatever, we’re rebels here at Guilty Eats, and we follow our own rules.
In a surprising coincidence, those rules are the same rules that govern how Chipotle is giving out free burritos, starting today. Titled “Free Throws, Free Codes,” every time a player makes a free throw, the brand will post a text-to-claim code on X (formerly Twitter) on their brand account (that would be @ChipotleTweets). The first 500 people to text the code to 888222 will get a code back for a free entreé at Chipotle – one that could, one assumes, be a burrito.
“This season, players have intentionally missed free throws to score freebies for their fans,” said Chris Brandt, Chief Brand Officer. “Hitting free throws on basketball’s biggest stage deserves to be celebrated, so we are flipping the script by offering free food for perfect trips to the line during the final series of the season.”
In total, Chipotle will give away up to 17,500 entrée codes, depending on how many free throws there are (and how many people claim them). There are currently four games planned for the NBA Finals: June 6, June 9, June 12, and June 14, 2024. Since the finals happen on a best-of-seven format, it’s possible that Chipotle could give away as many as 122,500 burritos if the promotion continues past June 6. That’s a lot of burritos! Thanks, Chipotle! And now that I think of it, the word I was initially looking for was "drool," not "dribble!" My bad!
