When claims hit social media that Chipotle has reduced its portion sizes, Chipotle lovers were having none of it! But the chain has pushed back, explaining this is not, in fact, the truth Ellen.
Leave it to TikTok to spread news like wildfire. This has its pros and cons, and one big negative to this is that not all news items are real. In fact, most of the time, the TikTok whispers are nothing but false rumors. According to Chipotle, this is the case for the latest social media scandal: Chipotle's portion sizes.
Listen, you can't blame foodies for quickly believing this rumor. Nowadays, everything is more expensive, so getting less for our buck at Chipotle sadly makes sense in this new normal we live in. But luckily, Laurie Schalow, the chief corporate affairs and food safety officer at Chipotle, told PEOPLE that no changes have been made to the portion sizes.
In the same statement, Schalow reminds customers that they are always welcome to request extra or less food as they create their meal. I know I, for one, have asked for more steak or chicken when the crew member is being a little stingy with the protein. But don't get crazy! An extra small scoop is fine, but if you really want a lot more of anything, it's gonna cost you.
So who started these rumors? That would be TikTok star and food critic Keith Lee. In one of Keith's most recent videos, he shares his disappointment after ordering three of his favorite meals. These are the steak quesadilla, a chicken al pastor bowl, and the crispy tortilla chicken tacos. In his review of these meals, Keith states that, not only was the food cold, but the portions of chicken were too small. This review caused other Chipotle-goers to speculate if the chain had reduced its portions sizes.
Schalow did also share that the Chipotle team has reinstructed all employees to keep proper portions in mind to avoid shortening any guests. What do you think about all this Chipotle drama? I don't know about you, but all this has done is make me crave a steak bowl with extra guac. Guess I know what I'll be having for lunch today! And yes, I'm going to keep a close eye on the portion that is served.
