Cold Stone’s Waffle Ice Cream Taco is coming to save Cinco de Mayo
Way back in 2022, the beloved Choco Taco disappeared forever. The ice cream treat had been a staple since 1983, but with changing times came time to say goodbye to Klondike’s iconic dessert. And now, in 2024, it’s – sort of – back for a limited time at Cold Stone Creamery.
To be clear, this is not the classic Choco Taco. That's still [sobbing] dead. However, it’s pretty much the closest thing you’re going to get, with Cold Stone’s sweet cream ice cream placed in a waffle taco shell, covered with chocolate and peanuts. And if I could say something sacrilegious, based on the photo above it maybe looks... Better? Than the Choco Taco? Please do not run me out of town.
"Whether you're a fan of sweet treats or simply looking to add a fun, festive dessert to your Taco Tuesday and Cinco De Mayo festivities, the Waffle Ice Cream Taco is sure to be a crowd-pleaser," said Sara Schmillen, vice president of marketing at Kahala Brands, parent company of Cold Stone Creamery, via a press release provided to Guilty Eats. "It's the perfect treat to enjoy with friends and family, or to treat yourself to a little indulgence and eventize this time of year."
Unlike the previous Choco Taco, you won’t be able to snag this in the freezer aisle of your local supermarket. Instead, the Cold Stone Waffle Ice Cream Taco is only available in stores, and for an extremely limited time: Tomorrow (April 30), aka Taco Tuesday; until Sunday, May 5, 2024, aka Cinco de Mayo.
Then once again we’ll have to close the lid on the chocolate ice cream taco, at least until fan demand grows to a fever pitch and Cold Stone adds it permanently to the menu. I’m just saying, it could happen!
And frankly [ominous voice] it should.
