KFC Saucy Nuggets and Apple Pie Poppers are here to offer bite-size bliss
A year ago, KFC ventured into the wide world of chicken nuggets. And now that world is about to get a whole lot larger with the introduction of Saucy Nuggets, which come in five, drool-worthy flavors. And not to be outdone by salty, the chain is also introducing bite-size Apple Pie Poppers at the same time.
“KFC has never been so finger lickin’ good – literally,” said Nick Chavez, CMO KFC U.S, via a press release provided to Guilty Eats. “We’ve entered the sauce chat. Our KFC Nuggets – made from 100% white meat chicken and hand-breaded with KFC’s secret recipe of 11 herbs & spices – dripping with these sauces create an unmatched flavor experience, with something for every palate.”
Let’s start with Saucy Nuggets first. The line-up costs $5.99 for 10 nuggets dipped in sauce. Those include two returning flavors: Nashville Hot, and Georgia Gold. It also includes three new flavors (you could have done that math, I’m sure): Honey Siracha, Korean BBQ, and Sticky Chicky Sweet ‘n Sour Sauce.
Here are the full descriptions of each Saucy Nuggets sauce, per a press release from KFC provided to Guilty Eats:
• NEW Honey Sriracha: A sweet heat sauce using a blend of red chili peppers, garlic and honey. Playing into the demand for sweet heat flavor, this sauce is for you if you have a little bit of sweetness plus a little bit of heat in you.
• NEW Korean BBQ: A sweet and savory umami sauce with soy sauce, garlic, sugar and sesame. This is the sauce for the global flavor explorers and fans of umami flavor.
• NEW Sticky Chicky Sweet ‘n Sour Sauce: A balanced combination of sweet and tangy flavors including pineapple, garlic, vinegar and chili. If you love the taste of sweet and sour, you’re going to love this.
• RETURNING Nashville Hot: Smoky, spicy and crispy, with an even ratio of flavor and smokiness to heat that brings balance – it brings the heat for fans of spice. In 2016, KFC was the first quick-service restaurant to offer Nashville Hot coast to coast, with Google searches for "Nashville Hot" increasing four times after the KFC Nashville Hot Chicken launch (one of KFC’s biggest launches).
• RETURNING Georgia Gold: A honey-mustard style BBQ sauce made with vinegar, honey and savory seasoning. It’s tangy with a flavorful punch. If you’re a fan of mustard and BBQ, this one’s for you.
Best of all, when you place a KFC order of $10 or more through the app or KFC.com, you can get your choice of a 10-piece Saucy Nuggets for free. You can also get them less free with a combo meal for $9.99, which includes the 10-piece nuggs, a medium drink, and Secret Recipe Fries.
Okay, let’s talk Apple Pie Poppers, which in my humble opinion sound far more interesting than the Saucy Nuggets (don’t get me wrong, I will eat all those Saucy Nuggets). Here’s how KFC describes them: “Filled with warm apple pie filling and wrapped in a buttery and flaky crust, Apple Pie Poppers are everything you love about apple pie in a fun bite!”
Four Apple Pie Poppers cost $2.49, or you can get four orders for $10 and create some sort of Apple Pie Popper/Saucy Nugget sandwich monstrosity.
And this is all well and great, but KFC is teasing more announcements to come next month, saying, “Keep an eye out on KFC's social channels for more saucy updates in April. We bet you'll be saying you canna-believe it.”
Gonna take a wild stab and say they’re not teasing cannabis sauce or cannibal nuggets, but otherwise, I’m fresh out of ideas. The good news is, I’m also about to be full of Saucy Nuggets and Apple Pie Poppers, so it all evens out in the end.
You can snag these new items at KFC starting on April 1.
